Ended last season in good form with back-to-back wins over 5f off slightly lower marks on turf and AW. Well below that form this year though in two starts and yet to beat a rival.

Very much a standard bearer for the yard this year completing a hat-trick off a mark of 80 over C&D in May. Has run well in his two subsequent starts the last one back here over C&D but it looks as though the handicapper may just have him now although he can't be totally written off.

Ran just the twice as a two-year-old winning on the second occasion at Newcastle over 6f on the Tapeta. Has proved rather frustrating and a little disappointing this afternoon given his juvenile form with headgear already used twice and dispensed with just as quickly. Ran respectably last time out behind Dark Defender again still not looking back to his best and faces another tough test here.

Capable of some useful form when with Charles Hills and won a nursery off 83 on heavy ground at Newbury. Has failed to win since though but has run better of late with the yard also back in form and his second last time out under today's rider was his best effort in a while and off just a 1lb higher mark he may well be able to get involved in this.

Useful handicapper who very much sprang back into life when forcefully ridden at Hamilton in June having enjoyed a favourable run up the stands rails. That effort came when everything fell just right and he's struggled in two outings since and that may well be the case here.

Gelded and making his first start for this yard when successful over 5f on the AW at Newcastle in March he's quite possibly never had his conditions on turf in three starts since. The soft ground may well have done for him over 5f here last time out and off a mark of 69 given his AW form he should not be written off here.

There was some useful form on his CV when with Hugo Palmer albeit he didn't manage to win for him but his form for his current yard has been very modest. He did manage to run his best race for a while last time out though when fourth at Hamilton although a repeat of that wouldn't be good enough to win here.

Forecasts

Holmeswood (6/4), Sahreej (3/1), Royal Brave (7/2), Dark Defender (4/1), Pomme De Terre (5/1), Suwaan (7/1), Elysian Flyer (8/1), Desert Ace (16/1), Fast Act (20/1), Memories Galore (20/1), Dawoodi (33/1)

Verdict

One of the better races on the card and there are few that can be given chances here but none better than DARK DEFENDER who has struck a rich vein of form of late and makes a quick return to the track here after a good run at Hamilton. Sahreej has to enter the mix here for a yard with a good record here and he along with Royal Brave will give the suggestion a stiff examination. Suwaan shouldn’t be written off back on better ground with Pomme De Terre and Elysian Flyer two others that may well be able to get involved.
  1. Dark Defender
  2. Sahreej
  3. Royal Brave
