Winner a Nottingham two starts ago in softer conditions but is generally ground-versatile and only 3lb higher in what is potentially a weaker race. Interesting in a first time tongue strap.

8/11
Couldn't quite cope with a 5lb increased in the weights at Ayr last time (6f, good to soft), but still managed to run with credit and has much more potential improvement in him than most of these, on ground and at a course which should suit him well.

Duke Cosimo13
Age: 7|  Weight: 9-2| J: T Eaves| T: M Herrington| OR:  74| D
10/1
Has lost his way slightly over the past year or so, having run with credit in some much better races than this last year. 1¾L behind Art Obsession at Doncaster two starts ago but better off at the weights this time.

12/1
C&D winner whose last victory came off a higher mark than this, but not at his best this year and would need to bounce back in a big way in order to hit the frame.

Highly Sprung8
Age: 4|  Weight: 9-1| J: J Fanning| T: C & M Johnston| OR:  73| D
11/2
Last victory came off a mark 10lb higher than this but he hasn't looked the same horse this year and has plenty to prove given his recent form.

Makes his first racecourse appearance since May 2015 and though he had some useful form prior to that long absence he is more than entitled to need this first run back after over two years.

Forecasts

Muscika (8/11), Art Obsession (5/2), Zapper Cass (9/2), Highly Sprung (11/2), Singeur (7/1), Duke Cosimo (10/1), Funding Deficit (12/1), Monks Stand (12/1), Stone Of Folca (50/1)

Verdict

Few of these look to be likely improvers, with the exception of MUSCIKA. David O'Meara's gelding makes only his fourth start in a handicap, and having won well two starts ago he may be able to acquit himself better off his revised mark now with an extra run under his belt. This course should suit his running style and if things go his way he could be tough to beat. Art Obsession is in great form at the moment and is another to consider, in addition to the versatile Zapper Cross.
  1. Muscika
  2. Art Obsession
  3. Zapper Cass
