Started as favourite or joint-favourite in all three starts justifying his position in the market with an all-the-way success at Nottingham in April when travelling very strongly. Upped to this trip when making his handicap debut off a 1lb lower mark at Windsor last time showing further improvement with the promise of more to come.

This yard are going well at the moment and have already got two wins out of this gelding so far in a maiden and last time out in a Haydock handicap over a mile off a 5lb lower mark. Had looked to be one to treat with a little caution in between those two wins and is often slow away and no banker to follow upon that last time out win.

Maintained his unbeaten record when taking a handicap on his debut last time out at Chester having previously scored on debut in a mile Leicester maiden. Appeared suited by this trip when winning last time out and stayed on well to score there and not hard to see some more improvement being forthcoming here.

Verdict

The last race on the card but a fascinating three-year-old handicap and one that is packed with horses that look as though they can progress on what they have done so far. Intrepidly would definitely be one of that group but does have to defy an rise in the handicap and along with Valcartier has to concede weight all round. That factor may just tilt the scales in favour of CONTANGO as he bids to defend his unbeaten record and capable of further improvement. Of the others Shamrokh is the most interesting if he can be made to settle with Ray’s The Money looking one to treat with care even after his win last time out.
