Loves it here and won over 1m in both April (soft) and last month (good to firm), before a 5lb rise accounted for her over that trip back here last time. Previous tries over this far have been unsuccessful, but they were last year and she races now as though this is within her compass, so she may be able to find the necessary to figure again.

All three of his wins have been at around this trip, though it is three and a half years since the last of them. A light of former days, he has been well held in all starts this season and despite the drop to this career-low mark, he is not yet threatening to halt the slide.

His two Flat wins have been recorded at Redcar, the most recent in May (1m2f, good). Ran well enough when beaten almost 5L into fourth at Chester last time from this mark, but this galloping track might play more to his strengths and he could still have each-way claims.

Yet to get off the mark from six starts but has threatened to do so on a couple of occasions, including last time at Wetherby (1m2f, good to firm) when a ¾L runner-up, belying his 16-1 SP. Up 1lb for that, but now that he has found his level he should again be very competitive.

Yet to win beyond 1m, but after a string of defeats since doing that at Windsor (good) last year he is not 1lb below that winning mark. Has been reasonably competitive from higher marks on his last two starts and visor now tried (has run well in cheekpieces). Probably has each-way claims.

The closest he has come to winning was on his handicap debut at Epsom (1m2f, good) last year when with Sir Michael Stoute. Well beaten on all three starts for this yard this season, including 13½L behind Auspicion at Newcastle last time and a 4lb drop does not look enough to halt the slide.

Won this race last year from a 3lb higher mark, but he has been unable to threaten since. His last two runs have been reasonable in context and perhaps a repeat success has been the target. Has won under this pilot before, cheekpieces fitted (first time for any headgear) and could come up trumps again.

Forecasts

Cornborough (13/8), Lopito de Vega (7/2), La Celebs Ville (4/1), Auspicion (4/1), Sir Jack (7/1), Warrior Prince (8/1), Saxo Jack (9/1), Outback Blue (10/1), Scottish Summit (10/1), Craftsmanship (10/1), Street Poet (16/1), Invictus (16/1), Raven Banner (16/1)

Verdict

It is always risky fielding against the Dascombe/Kingscote combination at Haydock, especially with a dual course winner such as La Celebs Ville, who should go very well again but still has a bit to prove from this mark and preference is for LOPITO DE VEGA, whose record this season suggests that this target has been on the minds of connections. In first-time cheekpieces and from 3lb lower than last year he could strike again. Sir Jack, Outback Blue and Scottish Summit all have each-way claims, while Auspicion is feared and both Craftsmanship and Outback Blue can't be ruled out in a competitive heat.
  1. Lopito de Vega
  2. La Celebs Ville
  3. Auspicion
