Showed ability on his only juvenile start and really built on that solitary outing off an 11 month break when winning on his reappearance this year over 6f at Pontefract after being gelded. Followed up that first win with two further victories in handicap company completing a hat-trick but a 1lb higher mark looked beyond him last time when bidding for a four-timer.

From a yard in good form he's been in good form this year following up his 6f Nottingham maiden win with a victory on handicap debut over 7f here in May off a 7lb lower mark. Failed to complete the hat-trick at Newmarket on his last start off a mark of 83 (winner had the run of the race) and should still be competitive off a mark that is 3lb higher returned to 6f.

Been given plenty of work to do this year but looks vulnerable to more lightly-raced sorts. Scored on his first run of the year in an AW handicap at Newcastle off what looks a fairly lofty mark and has failed to score since although a strongly run handicap over 6f appeared to suit him last time out at Windsor.

Only has a Kempton Park AW win over 6f to show for his efforts so far when with Luca Cumani and although he's run respectably for his new yard on two starts his mark is not an outstanding one. Not really shown enough to think he can win this with some progressive types in opposition.

Forecasts

Merlin (1/1), Black Isle Boy (85/40), Scorching Heat (3/1), Letmestopyouthere (4/1), Storm Over (5/1), Think Fashion (6/1), Glorious Rocket (12/1)

Verdict

Some of the interest in this race has been lost with the Storm Over being a non-runner but there are still some decent types running here in what should be a decent contest. Merlin looks to set the standard here and given his consistent form looks sure to be in the mix here. Black Isle Boy should be given another chance after showing some progressive form and it will be interesting to see if the blinkers still have an encouraging effect on Think Fashion as she makes her handicap debut. With rain forecast though SCORCHING HEAT is the suggestion as he looks better with some cut in the ground having looked one to follow this year if you forgive him his last run.
  1. Scorching Heat
  2. Merlin
  3. Black Isle Boy
