Runner-up to the smart Solomon's Bay last term but his efforts either side of that, although going close, were not as good. Shaped as though needing a stiffer stamina test and has been found a weak race on his return. Stable 3-9 at this venue.

Nice enough pedigree but has not shown any ability to match. Up to a more likely trip and trainer/jockey combined to land this two years ago.

Tailed off on both starts and hard to imagine it will not be a similar story again. Stable are 0-39 this year.

Showed some positive signs on his debut at Sandown. That was a sub-standard race for the track but there is a lack of depth in this contest too.

Third to the top-class Crystal Ocean on his debut but well below that standard in the Newbury mud next time. Interesting on stable debut and back on a sounder surface.

By Pivotal out of a Danehill Dancer who has produced winners over shorter. Last of nine on his debut and gelded since.

Cost 200,000 gns as a son of Oasis Dream out of a dam who was a winner over 1m3f. Full-brother Hayadh was a useful juvenile for John Gosden and interesting to see what the market makes of his prospects.

Forecasts

Calibration (4/5), Nathan (15/8), Warm Oasis (9/1), Grey Diamond (14/1), My Name Is Jeff (40/1), Seaside Dreamer (50/1), Here I Go Again (250/1)

Verdict

It is hard to know what to make of Nathan's two runs for Simon Crisford as the performances are poles apart. It can be considered the soft ground was to blame last time, but his dam acted on such conditions and there may be more to the poor showing. Warm Oasis is an expensive newcomer but CALIBRATION has to be considered the most likely winner. Trainer Martyn Meade has a fine record here and the extra quarter-mile should be helpful. His second to Solomon's Bay is the outstanding piece of form for this, but one which may make him an unattractive proposition if the odds are too short.
  1. Calibration
  2. Nathan
  3. Warm Oasis
