Bumper winner who produced his best hurdling form to chase home the very useful Pingshou at Cheltenham in December. Landed a small race at Bangor before looking a tricky ride at Stratford last time. In form trainer applies headgear and has 43-272 success rate when doing so.
AW Flat winner who romped home at short odds in a weak race last time. That penalty leaves him needing improvement but the scope is there and the champion jockey is back in the saddle.
Once rated 97 on the Flat at his peak and he has not won a race for more than two years. Ran well at Southwell last month on his second run over hurdles behind an enterprisingly ridden winner. Attracted support that day and, if gaining from the experience, could use the weight allowance to his advantage.
Finished well behind Forgotten Hero last time and has looked poor in each of his three runs, under both codes, since coming back from an absence.
Performed at a modest level in Irish point-to-points. Finished last of six on bumper debut for new yard and looks out of his depth here.
Forecasts
New Agenda (1/1), Lieutenant Gruber (2/1), Forgotten Hero (9/2), San Quentin (25/1), Truckers Tangle (66/1)
Forgotten Hero is interesting in receipt of the allowances here but it is more than two years since he last won a race. He was handled with kid gloves last time and it is possible he is a difficult ride. The same applies to Lieutenant Gruber who is now heavily equipped with headgear. Dan Skelton's charge has the pick of the form if proving capable of producing it. NEW AGENDA has a bit to find but he may be the more straightforward option. He is a fairly useful performer on the Flat and is now a winner over hurdles, having cruised home in an uncompetitive race last time. His previous run behind American Gigolo at Kempton does not leave him with much to find and, with the champion on board, he merits the pick.
