Beaten a long way in all four starts this year but has dropped 18lb as a result, so despite top weight has possibly his best chance for some time. Needs to show more though and a watching brief is best advised for the time being.
Only blip this term came at Hexham on penultimate start but that is a track that doesn't suit every horse. Otherwise, in fine fettle and won with something in hand 5 days ago. Should go well under his 7lb penalty.
Off for a couple of months since falling at Worcester when beginning to fade having led for much of the way. Scored here over 2f less back in April and only 5lb higher now. Not without a chance.
Front running 16-race maiden wears first time tongue-tie and, despite falling mark will have to improve to involve himself at the business end of this contest. Makes little appeal.
First runner at the track for Grand National-winning trainer who journeys down from Scotland with this 10-year-old, a winner at Bangor last August. Dropping in weights, but has shown little sparkle in last three starts. An interesting contender nonetheless.
Badly out of form since scoring over C&D last May and failed to complete last time out at Newton Abbot in May. Break might have done him good but needs to show plenty of improvement to figure.
Rather hit and miss gelding who has unseated in two of his last four visits to this track, either side of a couple of third placed efforts. Now 21lb lower than 13 months ago so handicapper has given him a chance if he can recapture old form.
Eight-year-old maiden who was sent off favourite last time but burst a blood vessel. That has to be a concern, but he does have some ability and any market confidence would be interesting.
Won this race last year making every yard of the running. 5lb higher now but with good conditional balancing things up has to be considered after showing a little more spark when fourth at Carlisle last time.
One paced mare who hasn't shown enough in recent starts to suggest she is likely to be a major player in this event despite lowly handicap mark. Hard to fancy.
7lb out of the handicap, in moderate form, doesn't seem to have an ideal trip and is very hard to enthuse over. Others are much preferred.
Forecasts
Bestwork (11/4), Sage Monkey (7/2), In On The Act (9/2), Deise Vu (8/1), Alottarain (10/1), Go On Henry (14/1), Antiphony (14/1), Accessallareas (16/1), Ballycool (20/1), Cold Knight (33/1), Next Exit (40/1)
BESTWORK seems the most logical conclusion to a race populated by mainly disappointing performers. He won nicely last week and turns out again quickly under his penalty. Last year's winner Accessallareas is at the right end of the weights and showed a little more dash last time so could go well, and Deise Vu may do better back after a break. Scottish raider Ballycool is a very interesting first runner at the track for his handler, while the dropped in grade In On the Act and Sage Monkey are not without hope either.
- Bestwork
- Ballycool
- Accessallareas
