Well beaten on debut last summer at Downpatrick but could be worth another try for a top trainer with a leading amateur booked for the ride.
Shantou gelding, first foal of a mare who won over hurdles over 2m and goes for a very well-respected trainer, including of bumper horses. Hood on for debut.
Rainwatch gelding whose dam was unplaced in bumpers but who may be able to do better than she did with a tongue strap applied for this debut appearance.
Returns to bumpers, presumably to gain more experience having run only to a moderate level on his hurdling debut last time. Showed improvement there but still not easy to fancy for this.
Didn't particularly catch the eye on either of his two appearances in bumpers so far but didn't look totally devoid of promise on either occasion and could be in the battle for a place with a tongue strap added.
Scorpion gelding who cost €3,000 as a foal and whose only half-brother won a maiden hurdle on his only start to date. Not discounted on debut.
Well beaten both times he's been tried in bumpers to date, and doesn't look up to winning even a minor event such as this one.
Doyen gelding who cost €12,000 as a yearling. Dam was unraced but he is a half-brother to a 2m hurdle winner, which is of vague interest when considering his potential suitability for this race.
Stowaway gelding who cost €10,000 as a 3yo, but out of his five siblings to have been tried under jumps rules, only one has won.
Whitmore's Conn mare who failed to sell as a 3yo. Dam was versatile, including over jumps, but her pedigree still isn't the most obvious for a debut winner.
Forecasts
Itsonlyrocknroll (4/7), Blunder Buss (9/2), Trump Sixteen (7/1), Duffgil Joe (8/1), Oldcastle (14/1), La Regle (16/1), Royal Zorro (25/1), Omygodrainagain (25/1), Twodoorsdown (33/1), Drumbar Millie (50/1)
This looks a relatively weak bumper and if ITSONLYROCKANDROLL is anything like the average standard of Willie Mullins newcomer he should win it fairly easily. He doesn't possess the most exciting pedigree, but this yard's ability to take moderate pedigrees and turn them into great racehorses must be considered, and so he is the selection. Fellow newcomer Twodoorsdown didn't cost much but his half-brother won on his only racecourse appearance to date, while Trump Sixteen hasn't been totally disgraced in two attempts and bumpers so far.
- Itsonlyrocknroll
- Twodoorsdown
- Trump Sixteen
