Galileo gelding who ran some good races on the Flat before his form tailed off. Not an obvious jumping pedigree on paper, though his brother did manage to record one win over hurdles, and he is of some interest on his first start for this trainer after an absence.

Well-beaten in recent maiden and novice hurdles (including when failing to justify odds-on favouritism), but is worthy of consideration on his better form, with an apprentice jockey here taking off a valuable 7lb.

Slightly disappointing last time when well beaten as favourite, but may not have enjoyed Kilbeggan's undulations having shaped with promise at Ballinrobe on his previous start. Retains potential in this sphere.

Sole win on the Flat came in much softer conditions than this, and he has yet to really impress in several runs over hurdles. More needed following a recent moderate run back on the level.

Has gone close to getting off the mark the last twice, and looks to be waiting to win a maiden hurdle of this type soon, going for a top trainer in conditions that should suit him well.

Didn't show too much in three attempts at bumpers while simultaneously not disgracing himself either. Needs a step forward on hurdling debut but has more potential to improve than most of these and wears a first time hood.

Switched to hurdles last time having failed to get off the mark over fences following a win in a point-to-point. Pulled up as if something were amiss that day and could be worth another try, as he would be right there on his best form.

Hasn't shown too much in two attempts at maiden hurdles so far, though he did at least jump much more impressively at Killarney last time out compared to his debut. Still needs to show more improvement than seems likely.

Not at his best recently having some nice races over the winter, and looks like a horse to appreciate much softer conditions than he's likely to get today, having been beaten by over 20L on his last three starts.
Returns to this trip having failed to improve for a step up last time out. Finished behind some nice types in bumpers over the winter but is yet to come into her own over obstacles and is best watched.

Showed little on hurdling debut at Bellewstown last time out, and needs to find plenty more now in a first-time tongue strap.

Point to point winner who makes her debut under rules here. Form of that win (and other points) isn't particularly impressive and she'll prefer fences in time, though it should be interesting to see what she can achieve on her debut over hurdles.

Beaten 125L on her only previous start and steps down in trip now. Suffice to say she needs to leave that performance a very long way behind her.

Verdict

Easily the one who brings the most appealing recent form to this race is CANNY TOM, who has gone close to getting off the mark the last twice and may well have done last time out if he hadn't met with trouble in-running. Given the competition here a repeat of that level of form may be sufficient, and he's already proven he goes on the ground (unlike some of these). Being by Galileo out of a Pivotal mare may not be the most obvious jumps pedigree on hurdling debut, but Boherbouy was a decent horse on the Flat and can make an impression here if overcoming a lay-off, while if able to put a disappointing hurdling debut behind him, Thiscraicisninety should also be on the premises.
  1. Canny Tom
  2. Boherbuoy
  3. Thecraicisninety
