Not tasted victory on turf for three years and whilst not beaten all that far at Goodwood on his penultimate start last month has appeared a shade high in the weights. Worth another go on the AW (just three career starts on an artificial surface) and now 12lb lower than his AW debut in January.

Won a couple of times as a juvenile for Saeed Bin Suroor (5f & 6f), but has clearly had issues having raced just once in 2016. Returned from another nine to ten months off recently, and eased slightly in the weights, but yet to race over further than 6f.

Not won since 2015 and yet to get off the mark for this yard but he did run well at Leicester in April when third to Gallipoli. Regularly placed in his limited number of starts on the AW (at this track over 1m), but the worry is that this 7f trip will mean he gets going all too late.

In excellent form during the month of March at this track, finishing second over 1m to Believe It, before comfortably downing Until Midnight over C&D later that month. Remains 5lb higher (career high mark), but well placed here as rider removes a handy 3lb, and would escape a penalty if successful.

Not won since January 2016 (here), and despite recording four career successes on synthetics is yet to score beyond 6f. That said; he does have recent placed form over this trip (Chelmsford and Wolverhampton), so one couldn't totally question his stamina.

She's done very little racing on the AW since winning over C&D in April 2015 (33/1) and from a 5lb lower mark is potentially well treated on synthetics. Furthermore, she ran well for this rider at Salisbury in June (third to Excellent Sounds), but at the age of nine is unlikely to be improving.

Ran on to finish third to Nightingale Valley in a 6f fillies handicap here in April and seemingly this is her optimum trip (two time C&D winner in 2015). Probably marginally high enough in the weights, but her turn will come again at this track.

Not been in the best form on turf since landing a moderate 1m fillies handicap at Chelmsford in March, although her latest effort is excused (tack problems). Drops back to 7f for the first time in a good while so interesting to see how she fares from a reasonable mark.

Five time career winner (2 from 28 on the AW) and ran well enough from a 3lb higher mark over C&D in late May (3½L third to Athassel). Not so good in two starts on turf since, but considered for place purposes.

Verdict

A tricky opener in which a case can be made for various runners. Childesplay is suited perfectly by this C&D, and shaped as if a return to this trip was in order when third to Nightingale Valley in a 6f fillies handicap in April, but she is arguably fractionally high in the weights. Similar comments apply to SALEH, but he is preferred with his talented rider removing a very handy 3lb. He has a career high mark to defy, but if he's capable of winning from this mark, it will be over this C&D, so he's worth chancing. Of the others Mister Music will be thundering home late, Professor is unexposed on the AW, whilst Sarangoo seems to go well for Georgia Cox.
