Doesn't appear ideally suited to racing on synthetics (14 race maiden), and down the field in a couple of 7f handicaps at Kempton on his last two starts. Better on turf.

Has run four times since winning by a short-head just over a month ago at Chepstow (6f soft). Appears to handle a hectic schedule well, and connections seek to make the most of a 20lb lower AW rating than on turf.

5L winner of a 1m+ handicap at Beverley in September 2016, and drops back to that mark for the first time since, wearing cheek-pieces for the first time. Ran poorly on AW debut at Newcastle (nine days after that success), and worth another try on this surface in the hope that race came too soon.

Three time C&D winner who beat all bar Zebelini over this C&D on his most recent start. Returns on the same mark and now seemingly back to form should run a solid race, but needs to reverse placings with that mare.

Tends to win in his turn, and does have C&D winning form on his CV. Given an excellent ride by Adam Kirby to score over this trip at Kempton in January, but that was in a Class 7 handicap and generally just held from this mark since.

In good order between 6f and 1m on turf/AW in this last three starts. Ideally could do with settling a fraction better in order to maintain some energy for the finish, but a player in this grade and beaten under 1L over 6f by Debonaire David last week.

Has run 16 times without winning since a debut success for James Given at Haydock in May 2015 (5f as a juvenile). Debut for this trainer who has made a flying start and tries this trip for the very first time in his career.

Six race maiden who hasn't really shown enough improvement since switched to handicaps to recommend. However, dropping in the weights, and was placed in a C&D maiden in January at odds of 100/1.

Attracted some market support on his handicap debut at Newcastle recently (1m), but he never threatened in finishing ninth of 14 to Symbolic Star. The jury is still out on this unexposed type for now, so worth persevering with if you supported him last time.

Turned over a new leaf lately, placed, and winning over C&D on her latest two outings. Up 3lb for beating Black Truffle by 1¼L last month and renews rivalry here.

Jockey knows this 12 race maiden well from her days with Mark Johnston, and she'd have a chance from this mark on her stable debut fourth over C&D in early May, but she has appeared to regress since then and needs to prove otherwise at the moment.

Has won at this track in the past for Gordon Elliott, but has arrived in this yard via an unproductive spell with Richard Ford. His placed efforts of late have come in Jersey and that form doesn't stand up well back over the channel.

Forecasts

Bruny Island (1/1), Satchville Flyer (7/1), Jazz Legend (8/1), Zebelini (8/1), Kuiper Belt (9/1), Black Truffle (12/1), Camaradorie (18/1), Beadlam (33/1), Molten Lava (40/1), Little Indian (50/1), National Service (50/1), Bridal March (66/1)

Verdict

Zebelini renews battle with Black Truffle, and that pair ought to be on the premises in this low grade handicap which features only a very limited number of possible improvers. Kuiper Belt potentially falls into that category and he attracted some support on his handicap debut at Newcastle recently, but in truth didn't show enough to recommend him with any real gusto. Satchville Flyer is far better treated on the AW than on turf, and he could be a handicap blot if able to maintain his progress on turf, but likely favourite BRUNY ISLAND looks the pick. He needs some cover in order to settle better, and if Stevie Donohoe can persuade him to drop the anchor, his turn of foot late on might be good enough to get the job done.
  1. Bruny Island
  2. Zebelini
  3. Kuiper Belt
