C&D winner last year and certainly came right back to form when winning at Southwell on his last run. Not the most consistent though so not certain to repeat that run off top weight here.

Highbury Highp,t33

Has been in very consistent form and is a winner over both hurdles and fences including around here over slightly further. Has in the past been a father ragged jumper of fences and can still make mistakes and that's something to keep in mind here.

Brody Bleut144

Was a fairly useful handicap chaser but has been below his best in hunter chases of late. Now back into a handicap the handicapper has given him a chance (15lb lower than when last running in a handicap) and if he came back to form he would be thrown in here.

Not seen out under Rules for over two years but has been running in point-to-points (winner at the seventh attempt in April 2016). Now with a new yard and with the visor on for the first time off a depressed mark from when he was last seen and vaguely interesting.

Won over fences at Fontwell last May off an 8lb lower mark and he's been kept ticking over on the Flat of late. His form can be rather in-and-out and this mark looks tough enough.
6
Horse silk
Vic's Last Stand14
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-10| J: B S Hughes| T: G Boanas| OR:  108
8/1
Very much in good form at this time last year over hurdles and completed a hat-trick at Uttoxeter last September off a mark of 105. Ran some consistent races after that without being able to win off higher marks but shaped better than the distance she was beaten on chasing debut last time at Hexham. Entitled to do better here and one for the shortlist.

Horse silk
Mille Nautique26
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-8| J: Thomas Bellamy| T: A King| OR:  106
6/1
Impressed on his chasing debut at Huntingdon in May last year but has rather surprisingly failed to follow-up that win albeit off higher marks. May well have needed the run last time out back off an absence and his mark is dropping back to one that he can win off if he can recapture his form.

Horse silk
Minella Forfitness26
Age: 10|  Weight: 11-7| J: A Pogson| T: C T Pogson| OR:  105| BF| CD
7/2
C&D winner on his penultimate start when he won despite not settling (typical of him) although a reduced mark really helped. Failed to follow-up that effort narrowly at Southwell last time (had run of race) but has to be respected back around here.
9
Horse silk
Chankillop17
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-5| J: R Johnson| T: S-J Davies| OR:  103| CD
7/1
The jockey booking has to count as a positive and he does have some reasonable placed form but very rarely convinces as a win proposition.

Horse silk
Miss Conway22
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-5| J: Jamie Hamilton(3)| T: M Walford| OR:  89
7/2
Very much in good form of late over fences at a lowly level with her last four chases reading 1321 but hasn't gone up that much in the handicap. Has run well around here before and one of the more likely candidates in a fairly competitive heat.
11
Horse silk
Bollin Line208
Age: 10|  Weight: 10-3| J: J E Moore| T: L Egerton| OR:  87
33/1
Won his only chase off a 1lb higher mark at Catterick but failed to go on from that and back from a break over hurdles last time he showed nothing to say that he was anywhere near that form and he's best watched here.

Horse silk
Notonebuttwop14
Age: 10|  Weight: 10-0| J: D R Fox| T: Kenny Johnson| OR:  80
40/1
Returned to form out of the blue to land a very poor races and Hexham and the revival was short lived with a poor effort last time. Out of the weights here by 4lb and others are preferred.

Forecasts

Miss Conway (7/2), Minella Forfitness (7/2), Mille Nautique (6/1), Chankillo (7/1), Gold Ingot (8/1), Vic's Last Stand (8/1), Highbury High (16/1), Vexillum (20/1), Brody Bleu (25/1), Bollin Line (33/1), Viking Ridge (33/1), Notonebuttwo (40/1)

Verdict

Certainly one of the more competitive races on the card with a fair few having a chance is they can produce their best form. Minella Forfitness is respected around here as is Highbury High although his jumping can be a little bit-and-miss. Miss Conway has been in good form and her Hexham form has been franked and Mille Nautique features off a tempting mark but overall VIC’S LAST STAND looks to be the one. She ran far better than her final position last time and looks to have plenty of improvement left in her in this new discipline.
  1. Vic's Last Stand
  2. Miss Conway
  3. Mille Nautique
