Seen to best effect when winning a handicap hurdle at Tipperary in April, since when he has been held off higher handicap marks. Last attempt at this trip was not productive, but worth another go.

Has tried his luck over fences on his last two starts, but reverts to hurdles. Not of obvious interest, but first-time cheekpieces may inspire an improved display.

A third of 13 at Tramore last month remains his best placing over hurdles, but tries his luck for the first time in a handicap. Connections reach for blinkers and this lightly-raced sort may be open to improvement.

One win from 21 starts over hurdles, but that was back in February, 2013, and he is not obviously well handicapped at present. Others hold more appeal.

Favourite when a faller at Down Royal last time. Had finished runner-up in his two previous contests so as long as his confidence has not been affected he remains on a mark from which he can mount a serious challenge.

Veteran campaigner who has three hurdles wins and five chase successes to his name. Starting to struggle as he approaches the twilight of his career and is vulnerable to younger rivals.

Six starts over hurdles have produced slow improvement and his last run, when third of 11 at Wexford, was certainly encouraging. Has been raised 1lb, but the experience he is gaining may well counter the rise and he looks a player.

Has been beaten a long way in all five starts over timber. Trainer is always to be respected, but he will need to pull a rabbit out of the hat if this one is to get his head in front.

Fair Flat performer who has won his last two starts on the level. Five hurdles races have failed to yield a place, but he is clearly in good heart and may have more to offer over timber.

Winner of a point-to-point and a chase, but without a success over hurdles, which he reverts to following a series of ordinary efforts over the bigger obstacles. Readily opposed.

Has been around the block a few times, winning three of his 36 starts over hurdles. Recent efforts have not been too productive and he looks to be regressive.

Winless on the Flat and over hurdles and has been beaten a long way on all four starts for this yard. First run in a handicap and not obviously well treated. Wears a tongue tie for the first time.

Without a win in 19 outings over hurdles, but ran well to be second a couple of starts ago and is not without a chance if able to reproduce that effort off a 3lb lower mark.

Beaten a long way in most of his 12 starts over hurdles and no reason why there should be anything different on this first run since October.

Verdict

It is not difficult to put a line through quite a few of these, but REDMOND HALL is not one of them. He looks a slow burner whose last run was his best and can step up again and go close in a modest handicap. Ben Runsom has been in good heart on the Flat and any sort of translation of that form to hurdles must give him strong claims, while Steamboat Quay has to be of interest on the assumption his tumble last time has not dented his confidence.
  1. Redmond Hall
  2. Steamboat Quay
  3. Ben Rumson
