Looked useful when landing her maiden and acquitted herself down in trip against Listed company at Newbury. Stable have won this twice in the last five years and they have an excellent chance of adding to that tally.

Handicapper has given her a break here by dropping to a mark which is 1lb above her Newcastle victory in September. Largely disappointing this season and was only third of four last time.

Winner of three races last season and has been placed on all starts since. Up in class now and stable are yet to get going after resuming operations. Looks exposed in a race where younger rivals have scored in four of the five renewals.

Landed an ordinary Leicester maiden and was too keen over further next time. Probably needs a strong gallop at this trip and that is feasible with High On Light in the lineup. Others have achieved more but she is held in some regard and cannot be dismissed lightly.

Scored in a first time hood on handicap debut when overcoming greenness to win a shade cosily. Ridden more prominently at Salisbury next time in higher grade last time and was not disgraced. Tackles a longer trip for a trainer who does well with his middle-distance horses here.

Shock winner of a Newbury maiden last autumn and not disgraced behind Harebell on return (reopposes on 8lb better terms for 4L). Well beaten on AW debut last time and, assuming the surface was to blame, she will be looking to bounce back. Early days but form suggests she may need some rain to enhance her prospects.

Expensive purchase for a handler who tends to have his patience rewarded by generous handicapping. One to note in the ring as she steps up in trip, although yard are just 1-16 around here.

Forecasts

Pleasant Surprise (2/1), Harebell (5/2), High On Light (6/1), Melinoe (13/2), Canny Style (13/2), Di Alta (8/1), Twenty Times (8/1), Perfect In Pink (9/1), Island Flame (14/1)

Verdict

Three-year-olds have dominated this race since inception and Luca Cumani has won two of the five previous renewals. With that in mind PLEASANT SURPRISE looks an obvious pick as she drops in class following a run in Listed company last time. Twenty Times and Di Alta are two nice fillies who will be hoping for some rain whilst Melinoe is interesting on her handicap debut. Perfect In Pink is better than her latest run suggests, whilst Harebell comes into the reckoning over this longer trip.
  1. Pleasant Surprise
  2. Harebell
  3. Perfect In Pink
