Disappointed on his chasing debut at Cartmel in late May, but ran better than his finishing position suggests back over hurdles at Aintree (2m4f good) behind Petrou. Stamina a concern over this trip, and that may prove his undoing unless gifted a soft lead.
A fair chaser for Stuart Crawford (2015 Ulster National runner up), and has raced four times for this trainer since a year off. Yet to really get competitive (did contest the Scottish Grand National) but falling slightly in the weights and was only just behind classy stablemate Heist (winner since) when fourth at Ffos Las latest.
In splendid form here in late 2014/early 2015, but off the track from July 2015 until April 2017. Understandably keen on his return to action and whilst not disgraced it can only be a watching brief that is advised for now.
Took this contest by ½L from Brand Ambassador in 2016 (off the same mark), so this four time winner has to come into the reckoning. Sure to benefit from his recent Market Rasen reappearance (first start since October) and if fully tuned up should run well.
Three time Flat winner in Italy for Luca Cumani, but yet to win in five starts over hurdles for this yard. However, showed enough to suggest he can win over hurdles when a 10L runner up to Petrou at Southwell last month (2m4f). Stamina a concern over this longer trip.
Formerly with David Pipe, but ran his best race for this trainer when 15L second to Vercingetorix (2m4f good) at Hexham recently. However, needs to do more in order to get his head in front and not won over this trip since his Point-to-Point debut in 2013.
Raised 5lb for a decisive 3m Musselburgh success in January (beat Miss Barbossa), but pulled up in two subsequent starts. His career record over hurdles isn't the most compelling (1 from 18) and his best runs at this track have come over shorter trips.
Has won six times over fences (twice at this track), but remains a ten race maiden over hurdles. However, his lower mark could be considered a plus and not disgraced when fifth to Heist at Hexham latest (runner up Presenting Junior a subsequent winner).
Finished a couple of places behind Border Breaker when fourth to Vercingetorix at Hexham recently, and whilst well handicapped on old form has been regularly below his best for long enough to be opposed.
Forecasts
Tangolan (5/2), Barkis (3/1), Derintoher Yank (6/1), Solway Dandy (9/1), Presented (9/1), Man With Van (10/1), Border Breaker (10/1), Pulpitarian (12/1), Native Optimist (28/1)
TANGOLAN should draw considerable benefit from his reappearance at Market Rasen last month (ran better than his finishing position implies). He races from the same mark (112) as he won this race from in 2016, and with a number of dubious stayers in the line up, he can be fancied to taste success for the second year in succession. Of the others, Man with Van could be of interest at bigger odds with Nick Scholfield booked, whilst Presented is on a fair hurdles mark based upon his better known chasing exploits.
- Tangolan
- Man With Van
- Derintoher Yank
