Her winning run over hurdles came to an end when beaten 9L by Royal Debutante in a mares handicap at Market Rasen in late April (2m+ good). However, she'd enjoyed a productive spell prior to that so had earned her short break. She heads back over fences now, but hasn't looked too keen over the larger obstacles in two previous attempts (both on heavy). Better ground might help her fencing, but comes with risks attached.

Not looked a chasing natural in two previous attempts over fences, but has reverted to hurdles for his last couple of races winning at Uttoxeter (selling hurdle) a fortnight ago. Stable a frequent source of winners at this track, but despite the small field he'd be a risky betting proposition.

Two of his three career successes have come at this track, and he's thrived of late in handicap chases, winning each of his last two starts. Now 9lb higher than when an 8L winner from The Pierre Lark over C&D in May, but his prominent racing style is sure to put some of these more questionable conveyances to the test.

Gradually improving for this trainer and beaten only a couple of lengths by Miss Conway (subsequent winner Brother Scott second) at Hexham last month (2m good). Now a 13 race maiden, but scope to go well in this company.

Forecasts

Welcome Ben (6/4), Martiloo (9/4), King Muro (10/3), My Little Cracker (6/1)

Verdict

With question marks as to the fencing ability of both My Little Cracker and King Muro, Craig Nichol would be well advised to make this small field affair a decent test from the front aboard dual winner WELCOME BEN. In truth, his winning form maybe isn't the strongest, but he appears to enjoy his visits to his most local track, and he looks the safest option in a rather uninspiring contest.
  1. Welcome Ben
  2. Martiloo
  3. My Little Cracker
