In decent form since March, winning on three occasions (maiden, handicap and novices hurdle) between 2m and 2m3½F. Penalties to carry as a result, but both trip and ground hold no fears, and this is far easier than the Class 3 handicap in which he competed last time.

Not much to show from three starts in bumpers (well beaten by Dear Sire at Sedgefield in December), and arrives for his hurdles debut wearing a tongue strap.

Not able to follow up her Listowel success last month (2m yielding) when 18+L third to Ask Susan at Down Royal recently. She folded quite tamely after forcing the pace, and whilst beaten by a couple of fair rivals, she now moves outside of mares company for the first time over hurdles.
Hasn't progressed from her Kelso hurdles debut third in December 2016 (beaten 12L by Jolie Crickette). Pulled up on her last two outings (both over 2m4f), so it's worth dropping her back in trip to 2m, even allowing for the fact her pedigree suggests she needs further.

Forecasts

Penny Jane (2/5), Dear Sire (9/4), All's Quiet (3/1), Queen Of Avalon (50/1), Barney's Caulker (66/1)

Verdict

A good opportunity for DEAR SIRE to record a fourth career hurdles success. He found life difficult in a higher grade at Aintree last month, but this is a far easier task, with Lorcan Murtagh's 7lb claim effectively removing one penalty from his back. The chief threat comes from Ireland, and although a fraction disappointing at Down Royal a couple of weeks ago, Penny Jane is slightly preferred to All's Quiet.
  1. Dear Sire
  2. Penny Jane
  3. All's Quiet
