Notched up a hat-trick of AW wins in early 2016 and form has been patchy since. This trip and an AW surface suit him best and he has dropped 4lb below his last winning mark.

Easy winner of a Wolverhampton handicap (easily accounting for Marmajuke Bay) on his return before running into an improved horse at York on bad ground in May. Blinkered for first time tonight and top rider booked who is 9-30 for this in form yard. Trainer is 47-226 when applying first time headgear and that improves to 37-131 if one of the first three in the betting.

Lightly raced son of Archipenko who beat a subsequent winner at Lingfield. Made handicap debut in a hot race last time and a 3lb rise seems fair. Stable in good form and a definite contender.

On a roll at present and followed up a hard fought Leicester victory with a 10L romp at Newmarket under this rider. This looks more competitive but his manner of victory last time suggests he may still be ahead of the handicapper. Made the frame on sole AW start and looks set for another bold show.

Tackling a new trip following a patchy run of form. Switch appears worthwhile on pedigree but others have stronger claims.

Useful hurdler and the winner of a C&D maiden in May under this rider. Potentially well treated, such was his manner of victory, but meeting much sterner opposition in this.

Landed two races at Sandown last summer but well beaten on both starts since. Makes AW debut with blinkers now fitted and has a fair bit to prove.

Forecasts

Gibbs Hill (10/11), Zubayr (9/4), Pumblechook (9/1), Regicide (10/1), Marmajuke Bay (12/1), Top Beak (25/1), Sunblazer (25/1), Proctor (50/1)

Verdict

Gibbs Hill was well supported at York but he failed to deliver and blinkers are tried. Time may show he faced a stiff task that day but he faces a pair of progressive types in Regicide and PUMBLECHOOK. Both represent stables in form with the latter making most of appeal given his current rapid rate of improvement. Marmajuke Bay is closely weighted with Gibbs Hill and useful hurdler Zubayr may prove better than the form of his latest victory suggests.
