Rattled off five wins in 2016 and the handicapper has been slow to forgive him. Appeared to be on his way back when third on his penultimate start before finishing last when raised to this class next time. Stable in form but his 0-7 record in this grade makes him a risky option.

Has run well in some hot races notably at Epsom last time but better efforts have come on soft or AW surfaces.

Impressive winner of races at Lingfield and Brighton before his new mark resulted in him going up in class. Still to prove himself at this level and this demands significant improvement on his last two starts.

Has failed to make the frame in 10 starts since his last success which came off an 8lb higher mark. That was gained on soft ground and he looks one to save for a rainy day.

Forecasts

Sir Roderic (2/1), Examiner (10/3), Storm Rock (4/1), Manson (4/1), Wind In My Sails (9/2), Kingston Kurrajong (6/1), Morning Suit (13/2), Takatul (7/1), White Tower (12/1)

Verdict

This is a weak contest for a race of Class Two standard and one where it may pay to overlook achievements at this level and side with recent evidence of wellbeing. That leads to WIND IN MY SAILS who is the only runner who appears to be heading in the right direction. He looked unlucky last time at Newbury when denied a clear run at a crucial time and he can add to the tally of wins he achieved in 2016. Storm Rock and Examiner would enter calculations if there is rain, whilst Takatul and Sir Roderic need to bounce back from poor runs last time.
  1. Wind In My Sails
  2. Sir Roderic
  3. Takatul
