Went close to breaking his duck twice last season, but disappointing so far this time, being a beaten favourite on his reappearance at Musselburgh (7f, good to firm) and then perhaps inconvenienced by soft ground (1m) at Wetherby last time. Blinkers added today and still the best of these on paper, so that elusive win is still a possibility.

Has been making steady progress in maiden company so far, the latest of his trio of runs being his first on turf. Has it to prove in these forecast faster conditions, but no reason why he can't continue to progress and drop in trip doesn't look to be a problem.

Sent off at 100-1 on both starts so far and her results have underlined that lack of confidence. Blinkers added today, but she looks like being in a different race to one or two of these and may be of more interest when handicapping.

Was having just her second outing when reappearing with a positive performance at Wolverhampton (1m½f, AW) earlier in the month, being beaten just 1½L at 8-1. Unlikely to be that price here and any progress should see her involved at the business end.

Well beaten on both starts so far over 7f at Newcastle. Now tries turf and a step up in trip, but needs to be able to improve plenty for that to get involved today and looks one to watch until handicapping.

Forecasts

War Of Succession (11/8), Luminous (2/1), William Booth (9/4), Book Of Dust (25/1), You Look Different (66/1)

Verdict

Six of the last seven runnings of this have gone to southern raiders and WAR OF SUCCESSION is given the vote to add to that roll of honour. Andrew Balding's gelding has been a little disappointing so far this term, but the ground looks to have been a valid excuse last time and this looks a weak enough race to get him off the mark, with blinkers a probable positive. Luminous will have to improve to challenge the selection, but she is clearly less exposed and can't be dismissed out of hand, while William Booth looks the other most likely player when the chips are down.

  3. William Booth
