Won a Newcastle maiden at the first time of asking before posting a couple of promising efforts in handicaps. Slightly disappointing when sent off as favourite last time out but that was a strong race and time may tell he did well to finish fourth. Worthy of consideration again here.

Winner of a modest three-runner handicap last time out. More to do under a 4lb higher mark in better company. Trip and ground not expected to be an issue though.

Yard has sent out two of the last ten winners of this race, Won in good style on debut at Newcastle but then adapted well to turf last time out. Interesting contender with plenty of scope for improvement. Wear blinkers for the first time.

Won his maiden in good style at Lingfield and has acquitted himself well since switched to handicaps. Better than the form figures would have to believe last time out; this looks easier and no surprise if he goes very close.

Dropping in the weights and exposed as ordinary over 6f. First-time cheekpieces failed to stop the rot last time out and he now has a bit to prove. Drop back to 5f possibly in hos favour, so worth a check in the betting.

One win from thirteen starts so far and limitations are pretty clear. His first start back after a gelding operation reads well but latest performance also left a lot to be desired. Bit to prove just now and best watched.

Forecasts

Batten The Hatches (5/4), Rock Of America (7/2), Maazel (5/1), Desert Sport (5/1), The Nazca Lines (8/1), Suwaan (10/1), Kamra (12/1)

Verdict

A chance is taken on MAAZEL being capable of delivering on a couple of promising recent efforts and he gets the nod ahead of Batten The Hatches, who represents a yard that holds a good record in this race and will be a potent threat if he responds positively to the first-time blinkers. Kamra holds Suwaan on bits of form and has a very feasible chance of emerging as the best of the rest.
  1. Maazel
  2. Batten The Hatches
  3. Kamra
