Off the mark over hurdles when a 6L winner of a Perth maiden (2m good) last month. Penalised for that success, but the champion jockey again booked to ride, with these conditions (trip and ground) ideal, he looks primed to go close.

2m4f Point-to-Point winner, but soon struggling on his rules debut at this track last month and ultimately pulled up. Drop in trip unlikely to suit, and if anything this is a stronger race (novices hurdle rather than a maiden hurdle).

Trainer capable of producing big priced winners, but tough to argue a case for this former Brian Meehan trained Flat racer (maiden). Well beaten on stable debut in a 2m novices hurdle won by Champagne City at Kelso last month.

11/2
Lightly raced sort who made his hurdles debut at Kelso last month. Fared better than Magnum in finishing fourth to Champagne City, but needs to take a significant step forward to bother either Jimmy Breekie or Enzani.

Well beaten in a couple of bumpers spread over five months apart. An inexpensive purchase who is a half-brother to the JP McManus owned Jack Steel. Likely his longer term future lies over fences and should struggle on hurdles debut.

Enzani (1/9), Jimmy Breekie (8/11), Schlipf (11/2), Magnum (11/1), War Joey (25/1), Ripstick (50/1)

Verdict

To all intents, this is a match, so hopefully Jimmy Breekie will stand his ground if also lining up at Aintree on Friday evening otherwise we'll have a most uncompetitive event on our hands. Official ratings suggest that the Crawford trained horse has 3lb in hand with ENZANI on these terms (128 vs 121), but there's the possibility that the McConnell raider might just have too much toe for his market rival over this trip of 2m, and he has the able assistance of Richard Johnson to do the steering.
  1. Enzani
  2. Jimmy Breekie
  3. Schlipf
