100,000 gns yearling by Bahamian Bounty who showed improvement from debut to get within ¾L of Mutoondresdashhorse at Newbury last month (7F soft). This extra yardage seems certain to prove beneficial and unlikely to be hindered by drying ground.

Denied by a short-head by Hakeem at Yarmouth in a 1m maiden on good to firm ground in late April, but at first glance a shade disappointing next time at Wetherby when a beaten odds-on favourite. However, that 1m2f contest has worked out very well with the 1/2/3 (Shymkent (rated 86), Born To Be Alive and Pilgrim's Treasure) all winners since. Down in trip with cheek-pieces applied.
Unraced fifth foal by Lonhro out of Kydd Gloves, and a half-brother to various winners which include Tactfully and Al Jamal. Stable often do very well at this track.

34,000 gns yearling by Dragon Pulse, but has only been able to produce a couple of rather modest efforts so far. Has been towards the rear on both of those starts, and this half-brother to winning hurdler Deauville Dancer could need further.
Unraced Iffraaj gelding out of Consensus who fetched 100,000 gns as a yearling, but was knocked down for just £3,000 at Doncaster in November 2016. A half-brother to various winners including Cloneylass, but clearly with his fair share of problems based upon that auction price.

Looked weak at the business end of the race last week on debut at Yarmouth (1m) when seventh to Rigoletto. Needs to improve on that showing, but notable that the tongue tie is added to help, so this half-brother to Reesha and Mutawaaly shouldn't be discounted yet.

Slowly away and never competitive on both starts over the winter on the AW (Polytrack and Fibresand). Given time off and makes his turf debut, but this €18,000 yearling needs to take a significant step forward to be involved in the placings today.

Twice raced High Chaparral gelding who cost £200,00 as a yearling (€60,000 foal). Likely far better than he's shown so far in mid to rear field finishes, but now looks to be awaiting a handicap mark.

€22,000 juvenile by Myboycharlie who started at odds of 250/1 when last of nine to Red Label over 1m at Leicester in October 2016. Hard to discern exactly what ability he has, but most likely a major outsider once more here.

Unraced sixth foal by Sir Prancealot out of Yandina who cost 60,000 gns as a yearling. His dam is out of an unraced half-sister to 1m Group 2 winner Alshakr, so has some claims on pedigree.

Stablemate of Mirimar (same ownership), and an unraced son of Jeremy out of Ballygologue. Cost €40,000 as a yearling, but could well need further and likely to do better with experience and time.
Cost €42,000 as a yearling and this son of Lawman is a half-brother to seven winners including high-class stayer Allegretto. Like his stablemate Pioneertown, is probably better than he's shown so far, and likely to do better when upped in trip in handicaps.

Gelded over the winter after a low key debut at Kempton in September 2016 (7F), but ran green and unable to get involved when eleventh of 13 to Rumpole over 1m at Windsor last month. Needs to show more with the first-time hood applied to help sharpen his focus.

Unraced second foal by Tamayuz out of Canadian mare Dubai Media (a 6F AW winner). Her dam is a half-sister to 1m Grade 1 winner Square Eddie, but life looks tough here on debut against the colts and geldings wearing a hood.

Forecasts

Alwahsh (5/4), Alqalsar (3/1), Arabic Culture (7/2), Khataaf (10/1), Sukoot (25/1), Mirimar (25/1), Tyrolean (25/1), Wootyhoot (28/1), Pioneertown (50/1), Swaffham Bulbeck (50/1), Sanguine (50/1), Bringit (50/1), Decision Maker (150/1), Bombero (200/1), Wolfcatcherjack (200/1), Red Bordeaux (200/1)

Verdict

A 16 runner maiden, and a number of trainers are doubly represented, so this isn't the easiest problem to solve, but there's quite possibly not as much depth as the average Nottingham maiden, so that helps narrow down the field considerably. Debutant Arabic Culture aside, those with form and experience hold the key to the likely outcome. Alqalsar should relish the step up in trip to 1m, whilst the first time cheek-pieced ALWAHSH will be suited by dropping down two furlongs. His latest Wetherby fourth looks much stronger now with the benefit of hindsight with the first three horses in that contest winning since, including the 86 rated winner Shymkent. He looks the most solid option and is entitled to make it fourth time lucky.
  1. Alwahsh
  2. Alqalsar
  3. Arabic Culture
