Was not beaten far over 5f here (good to firm) last month from 2lb higher and has shown form over both that trip and this that suggest that he can be very competitive here. Has run well in visor previously.

Has not won since 2015 and when racing away from the All Weather his best form has been with some cut in the ground, so today's forecast conditions looks ideal. Now 6lb lower than that last winning mark and with this pilot on board there could be an upturn in recent fortunes.

Won her first two starts in 2015, but not hit the mark since then. Huge slide in the weights has stopped for the time being, but she was still beaten over 4L last time at Catterick and can't be supported with much confidence.

Made a promising handicap debut in a race for maidens at Redcar last time when beaten just over 1L (6f, good) from this mark. Same pilot on board again today and entitled to be competitive.

Has won four times on turf, all when the ground has been sound or fast, so genuine soft ground here would be a concern. Handicapper has given him a chance and he is now below his last two winning marks from last season, though still has a bit to prove on recent evidence.

Relishes soft ground on turf and goes into this 5lb lower than when winning at Catterick (5f) when that was the going description in October. Effective at up to 7f, so this trip is no concern and it would not be the biggest shock to see him pop up again today.

Off the mark at the 17th attempt last time at Redcar (6f, good) in a maiden handicap. Now 3lb worse off with Kensington Palace for beating him just over 1L, so should be thereabouts, although hard to get carried away with the possibility of a follow-up win after a glance at his CV.

Has only ever won in selling and claiming company and has not recently looked like the same horse that ran second at Doncaster (7f, good to firm) just over a year ago from 17lb higher. Looks best watched at present, unless there is significant market confidence in him.

2-57 career profile, his wins coming in a Chepstow maiden (6f, soft) in 2014 and a Beverley handicap (5f, good to firm) a year later. 3lb lower today but has not been able to get competitive for almost a year and he does not look one to be risking the hard-earned on this time.

It is five years since he recorded his only turf win, which came on soft ground over this trip at Warwick from 14lb higher. Best recent effort was also over this trip at Ayr, but he has not genuinely threatened to win a race for some considerable time.

0-15 and 16L behind Concur in a maiden handicap at Redcar last time. Given that the winner was doing so on his 17th start, it is not easy to see this gelding banishing the memory of some fearful recent defeats in one fell swoop.

Recorded all four of her wins in 2013 and 2014. Seems to handle soft ground alright, but most of her best turf form has been on a sound or fast surface. Impossible to recommend, however, on any line of recent form.

Forecasts

Kensington Palace (11/4), Concur (5/1), Tango Sky (5/1), Insurplus (13/2), Whipphound (17/2), Silhuette (10/1), Yair Hill (10/1), Gaelic Wizard (12/1), New Decade (18/1), Bahamian Sunshine (25/1), Minty Jones (33/1), Jacksonfire (80/1), Sunrise Dance (100/1)

Verdict

A very poor start to the card in terms of quality, but something will win it and that may be WHIPPHOUND. Admittedly he is getting longer in the tooth, but he pops up now and again, is on a good mark and has conditions to suit. Insurplus can make his presence felt from top weight, while Tango Sky, Concur and Kensington Palace are all respected.
