Cost over 300,000 guineas as a yearling but took four runs to get off the mark (over 1m, good to firm at Ripon) before looking outclassed in a Listed race at Chester. Questions to answer as he makes a handicap bow.

Pretty consistent last season, scoring over 7f at Epsom (good) before ending the year with a win over 1m on the AW. Encouraging reappearance when fourth at Beverley and should remain competitive off this sort of mark.

Twice a winner from 3 attempts on the AW but still 0-3 on turf, having proved a shade disappointing at Leicester (1m, soft) on her reappearance. Faster ground likely to see her in a better light so dangerous to discount.

Showed a nice turn of foot to win over 7f at Chelmsford first time out and when running on strongly to finish fourth from an unpromising position at Lingfield (again 7f) on his handicap bow. Of interest stepping up to 1m as he makes a turf debut.

Obliged in tidy fashion at the second attempt over 1m on the AW at Newcastle and looked a shade unlucky when third behind Sidewinder on turf/handicap debut over 1m at Haydock (good to firm). More to come and should make presence felt.

Broke his maiden at the first attempt when debuting over C&D (good-to-firm) in April despite being a notable market drifter. Needed every yard of the trip that day and no margin for error on his handicap bow.

Placed four times for Brian Meehan and ran a blinder for his new yard when chasing home an improver over 7f here in April. Took a step backwards on the AW last time and vulnerable to less exposed types as he returns to 1m.

Backward on only juvenile start and, though he finished a close-up fourth on his return over 1m at Lingfield, he struggled when upped to 1m4f last time. Others appeal more as he drops back in distance.

Off the mark by 3L at the fifth attempt in a 7f Lingfield maiden in March, but well-held in two subsequent handicaps over this trip on the AW and having just a second turf run today. Hard to envisage her being good enough.

Scored at Gowran Park as a two-year-old but not shown much in four starts for this yard in the UK, including on first attempt at this trip last time out in April. Mark is starting to plummet but hardly convincing right now.

Forecasts

Hakeem (11/4), Fujaira Bridge (7/2), Moolazim (9/2), Excel Again (5/1), Glendun (9/1), Hersigh (10/1), Kodiac Khan (20/1), Alkashaaf (25/1), Salt Whistle Bay (33/1), Millie's Kiss (40/1), Justice Frederick (66/1)

Verdict

An interesting handicap in which Hakeem is likely to have his supporters following a winning debut over C&D, whilst Fujaira Bridge is an interesting class dropper. Moolazim clearly has a turn of foot and is an obvious contender stepping up to 1m but the one to beat may be Newcastle maiden winner EXCEL AGAIN who looked a shade unlucky when finishing full of running after meeting traffic problems on his handicap debut at Haydock.
  1. Excel Again
  2. Moolazim
  3. Hakeem
