Not too many miles on the clock and has made a promising start since upped in trip and switching to handicaps. Interesting contender for a race like this; with a very capable rider booked.

Last win from a 10lb higher mark back in April 2015, so well handicapped if he can turn back the clock. Had 64 previous starts but only raced at Ayr once before (finished sixth of seven runners), so little to be gleaned from course statistics, but suited by the trip and cut in the ground, so should at least have conditions to suit.

Extreme patience has been called for with this 10-y-o as he hasn't tasted success under either code of racing since winning at Leopardstown during his time in Ireland back in 2013. Strangely never won beyond 1m on the Flat but does stay the trip well. Risky option when everything is taken into account.

Rider won this race last year and has been found a willing partner in her bid for back-to-back wins. The gelding made every yard to win at Thirsk last week and may have a little more to offer. Career best on the Flat required under his penalty but this is a weak and he has lots going for him.

Won over C&D last July but is another whose wins to runs ratio is poor up to press. Recent return to action on turf (at Redcar) left a lot to be desired and may have to settle for a minor role.

Forecasts

Tonto's Spirit (4/6), Lady Natasha (11/4), Sherman McCoy (10/1), Thackeray (12/1), Gunner Lindley (25/1)

Verdict

TONTO'S SPIRIT is fancied to make a bold bid to follow up last week's win at Thirsk, as it's very possible that some of his elder rivals will find him hard to peg back if he is in the same determined frame of mind. Lady Natasha is one that has scope of improvement will benefit from the assistance of Carol Bartley, while Thackeray has a C&D win to his name and, as he is in receipt of plenty of weight, can pick up the pieces if the expected principles fall below expectations.
  1. Tonto's Spirit
  2. Lady Natasha
  3. Thackeray
