Sound performance at Doncaster at the beginning of June and holds decent claims if in the same frame of mind. Has the pick of a couple of entries this week, so may be an active period if all goes well.
Previous C&D winner that is back near a winning mark. Recent form below his best but the drop back to the minimum trip is very much in his favour. One to keep tabs on in the betting.
Finished last in the 2016 Bronze Cup on his only previous visit to Ayr but has to be forgivent that run. However, he still looks to be paying the price for an exuberant mark achieved as a 2-y-o and may need a bit more assistance from the man in charge. Last two starts not so good but possible he will be in better heart now the ground has turned in his favour.
Capable sprinter that has paid his way at this sort of level so decent claims on the pick of his form. Been hard to predict in efforts since the turn of the year and no surprise if others are more determined in a tight finish.
Notably made a winning start for Ruth Carr but has been held in a couple of handicaps since. Very soft ground would also be a worry and others make a tad more appeal.
Behind Bunce and well held by one of his stablemates here last week and will struggle to reverse form with his old adversary over a trip which may be too sharp for him these days.
Back to form last twice and the drop to 5f holds no fears for this previous C&D winner. Ground conditions aren't expected to be on the radar for worries, so a bold bid can be expected. Has been held by My Name Is Rio over C&D in the past but has a feasible chance of reversing the form on these terms...needs to be at his very best to do so though.
Forecasts
My Name Is Rio (15/8), One Boy (9/2), Grandad's World (9/2), Suwaan (11/2), Dark Defender (17/2), Bunce (10/1), Goninodaethat (20/1)
A good chance of MY NAME IS RIO to stamp his authority as topweight over a modest bunch over a C&D that has served him well up to now. The ground suits him ideally and also notable that he has for tonight's rider, so plenty to like about his chances. Bunce is an old rival that deliver a stern challenge on these terms, while Dark Defender and Grandad's World both need to bounce back from disappointing efforts but have much more solid claims when the pick of their form is taken into consideration.
- My Name Is Rio
- Bunce
- Dark Defender
