Winner at the third time of asking off a mark of 110 in a handicap hurdle at Ffos Las (good) last time out. More needed if he's to take this contest.
Justified odds-on favouritism when registering his first hurdles success over an extended 2m at Bangor (good-to-soft) last month. Had previously finished third to subsequent Grade 1 winner Pingshou and likely to prove hard to beat here.
Beaten 36L when fourth at Market Rasen (good) last July on his only start so far. Well beaten on the Flat this year and likely to be playing a minor role in this.
Best effort so far over hurdles came when beaten 23L into third in a nine runner race at Fontwell (heavy) over an extended 2m1f in December 2015. Returning from over a year off when well beaten in two runs on the Flat last month.
No show in two starts so far over hurdles including when beaten 22L into fifth over 2m1f at Cartmel (soft) last month. Best watched here.
Seven time Flat winner and showed improved from when beaten 31L into fourth in a six runner maiden hurdle at Huntingdon (good) last month. Well held at Kempton prior to that and likely to fare better once tackling handicaps however.
Maiden point-to-point winner at Stradbally (good-to-yielding) in May 2016. Well held three times under rules since and more needed in this.
Ex-Pascal Bary-trained gelding. Winner at Saint-Malo (good) over 1m1f last August and an interesting runner wearing a hood for his hurdling debut. Yard have a 38% strike-rate recently (3/8).
Always behind and well held when falling two from home on her debut at Newton Abbot (good) in September last year. Half-sister to winning hurdler Epoustouflaunt and interesting to see how she fares here.
Maiden after 24 starts including five over hurdles. Well beaten in a novice hurdle at Ludlow (good) last month and likely to struggle today.
Forecasts
Lieutenant Gruber (5/6), Comanche Chieftain (3/1), Spring Bok (7/2), Sandy Cove (14/1), Highsalvia Cosmos (20/1), Monar Lad (25/1), First Summer (50/1), Camaplu (100/1), Telmadela (100/1), Farrah's Choice (200/1)
Bangor winner LIEUTENANT GRUBER looks the most likely winner of this opening contest. The selection carries a penalty for that success and he can get the better of Spring Bok who had some fair form on the Flat in France and makes his hurdling debut today. Commanche Chieftain, a handicap hurdle winner last time out can claim third in this.
- Lieutenant Gruber
- Spring Bok
- Comanche Chieftain
