Won in novices company last season at Catterick (7f, good to soft) and went close on soft ground over 1m at Ayr. Not beaten too far from this mark on his reappearance at Doncaster and now steps up to a trip that should suit with conditions again to his liking. Should go very well.
Scored on debut (7f, good) last season and showed that she handles cut when runner-up at Thirsk (1m) next time. A decent effort in Group Two company followed and with that a hike in the weights, which she has so failed failed to overcome. Another 3lb drop will help and the step up in trip looks positive, so she looks a leading player.
Seen just the once so far when making a winning debut at Chelmsford (7f, AW) in November. Runner-up won next time and has since gone close from a mark of 82 in a handicap, so with pedigree suggesting that this step up in trip is a good move, he looks likely to be very competitive.
Has shown improvement each time he has visited the track and gone close in his last two maidens, so it is interesting that connections put that behind them and go handicapping, which is perhaps an indication that they feel that he is up to winning from this mark. Should stay this far and likely to handle conditions, so not ruled out.
Has made marginal gains with each run and broke his maiden at Ripon (1m1f, good) last time. Should get this extra 1½f and his dam won on soft ground, so there is plenty of optimism that he can handle conditions. Another who has claims.
Scored on debut at Thirsk (7f, good to firm) last season and finished 7L behind Mister Belvedere next time at Carlisle (good to soft). Now 16lb better off with that rival and ran from this mark at Doncaster last season in defeat. Has run on good/fast ground bar that Carlisle effort and may not be seen to best effect given the forecast going.
Won a Newcastle maiden over this trip in January and not disgraced when 1m looked to be on the short side for him at Newmarket (soft) last month. Back over this trip and from 1lb lower he probably has each way claims.
Won a 7f Redcar maiden on debut last year (good to soft) but has not managed to add to the win column in handicaps, despite running respectably. Recent efforts suggests that he will need a further drop in the weights before winning again, although top pilot booked for the first time and money for him would be very interesting.
Forecasts
Materialist (5/2), Another Eclipse (4/1), High Waves (5/1), Doctor Bartolo (7/1), Pirate Look (8/1), Society Red (11/1), Mister Belvedere (12/1), Reachforthestars (16/1)
Mister Belvedere and Reachforthestars set the standard here and it would not be a surprise to see either prevail, while High Waves is unexposed and likely to make an impact. Money for Pirate Look would be positive, though purely on what he has achieved he is already beginning to look more exposed that some here, one of those being MATERIALIST, who represents a yard in continued good form, is going the right way and can show further improvement this time.
- Materialist
- Mister Belvedere
- High Waves
