Yard have won this a couple of times before and this one gives them another chance of landing this prize. He created a very good impression when winning at Musselburgh on debut travelling well and going on to win and with likely improvement to come he's one of the principals here.
One of two runners from the yard in this with this one looking to be the second string but no forlorn hope based on his form so far. Certainly improved when winning last time out at Pontefract over 6f (weak event) although the move back to 5f is a slight negative.
Looking at the market this looks to be the main hope for this stable who has shown better form in two defeats since winning over 5f on his debut at Brighton. Not beaten far in the Woodcote Stakes at Epsom last weekend in a race containing five last time out winners and only going down to one that is Royal Ascot bound and sets the standard here.
Showing progressive form albeit at a steady pace and certainly turned in a career best last time at Redcar (5f) when making all to win with a bit to spare. Takes a rise in grade here but couldn't be ruled out with further progress still in his locker.
The step up to 6f looked to suit at Chelmsford last time when he broke his maiden digging deep and staying on under pressure and looks as though he'll stay further. Slight doubt therefore as to how he will cope with this drop back to the minimum trip against some speedy types.
Just the one run to his name so far and in that he shaped really well to finish third over 5f at Newmarket with three next time out winners coming from the event. Likely to have learnt plenty from that run and should come on here and know a lot more this time with the form of his debut run looking strong.
The only one making his debut in this he was a £78,000 breeze-up purchase. Dam was a two-year-old 6f winner but he is in pretty deep on his first run here and this may be too tough an ask on debut.
Forecasts
Cardsharp (6/4), Areen Faisal (11/2), Excellently Poised (11/2), Rufus King (6/1), Joe's Spirit (15/2), Chatburn (8/1), Cool Spirit (11/1)
Competitive is certainly an adjective that can be used about this event with the standard being set by Cardsharp after his good second at Epsom last time out and he looks likely to start favourite here although there look to be some who look capable of further progress here and that may take them past him. Excellently Poised needs respecting coming from a yard that has won this before and so does Rufus King who gives Mark Johnston a good 1-2 punch. Overall though the Fahey juveniles are going well and AREEN FAISAL comes from a race that is proving strong form and gets the vote here.
- Areen Faisal
- Cardsharp
- Excellently Poised
