Brought to an end a drought of almost two years when scoring over this trip at Leicester (good to soft) in a similar contest last time. This is a little stronger on paper, but she did that nicely enough despite hanging right in the closing stages and she should give a very good account under a 6lb penalty.
Ran up a hat-trick over 6f-7f last August, on good or fast ground, before the handicapper took her measure. Remains 2lb higher than the best of those wins and showed that she is capable from higher marks in soft conditions when making the frame at Hamilton in September. Could go very close.
Won a Chester maiden over this trip (good) 13 months ago and gradually got the hang of things in handicaps as the season unfolded. Reappears here from a 1lb lower mark than she left off and with the right team behind her to produce a big effort. Dam's sole win was on soft ground, so optimism that she will handle it. Very interesting.
Has won once in each of the last three seasons, all over 5f and two on soft ground. Hasn't been competitive very often since the last of those but is now just 1lb higher, although she has to prove that she will see out this trip as previous efforts have proved abortive.
Won a maiden over this trip on her second start, but has never raced over it since, sticking to 5f-6f contests and taking four of those. Best on faster ground, though has won on good to soft. First start for new yard with is from a competitive mark and a market check is advised to gauge confidence in her chance of a first win in three years.
Forecasts
Golden Glimmer (2/1), Rebel Surge (11/4), Courier (7/2), Willbeme (9/2), Appleberry (8/1)
Rebel Surge should go well under her penalty but she will need to improve and GOLDEN GLIMMER gets the vote this time. Tom Dascombe's four-year-old looks to be on a decent mark for this reappearance and if she has strengthened up again over the winter then there could be further progress to be made this time. Courier is thoroughly exposed but nonetheless likely to be competitive in conditions that hold no fears, while Willbeme is of interest on her first run for Simon West.
- Golden Glimmer
- Rebel Surge
