Ex Roger Varian trained runner who was a shock 50/1 maiden winner on stable debut at Wetherby last month (1m2f good). Out of his depth in a Listed contest at Goodwood subsequently, and this looks a shade easier on handicap debut despite an opening mark of 86.

Joined this trainer via the Absolute Blast route (from France) for 40,000 gns in October 2016 and makes his stable debut after missing a couple of planned runs at Haydock and Doncaster. Not raced beyond 1m which is a worry, but should stay on pedigree, and these ground conditions will hold no fears.

5/1
Holds a couple of Group 2 entries at Royal Ascot, and probably wasn't suited by the small field contest around Chester (1m2f+) when caught flat footed as the pace quickened when only third to Atkinson Grimshaw. Clearly thought capable of better and no surprise if his rider seeks to attempt to make all.

Firmly on the up having landed his last two starts on artificial surfaces at Lingfield (1m) and Chelmsford (1m2f). Up in trip and will encounter a soft racing surface for the first time so has a few slight question marks to answer, but hailing from this yard remains very much respected.

Frankel colt who took a backward step on his latest outing at Ripon last month, and his opening mark of 77 looks plenty high enough based upon what he has actually achieved so far. Others would appear plenty stronger today.

5/1
Stablemate of Voski and a winner of a small field maiden (1m4f) at Lingfield in March (beat Ulysses by a neck). Ran well enough on handicap debut at Chelmsford five weeks ago, and now drops back in trip encountering testing ground conditions for the first time in a six race career.

Forecasts

Melting Dew (13/8), Shymkent (10/3), Addicted To You (5/1), Voski (5/1), Immortalised (7/1), Something Brewing (18/1)

Verdict

A couple of potentially interesting types in this contest which include the dual AW scorer Melting Dew and the ex-French racer Something Brewing. However, both of these horses have to prove their stamina over this trip, and any potential minor weaknesses could be exploited by the Mark Johnston trained VOSKI. He could be asked to jump out and attempt to make all as he did when winning on debut at Lingfield in March in the expectation that he is a much better horse than he demonstrated in a muddling affair at Chester last month.
  1. Voski
  2. Melting Dew
  3. Addicted To You
