A winner at this track on turf in April 2014, he's also won three races on the AW elsewhere, but not since December 2015. Has raced over further on both starts in 2017, but disappointed on his last two starts over this C&D in the autumn, so slightly vulnerable on balance off joint top-weight.

Course winner over 1m in December 2016, and on the whole has been consistent here on Tapeta; 3,1,2,2. Yet to race over further than an extended mile and well beaten at Southwell latest, so overall has a few questions to answer.

Won on her first start for this trainer at Thirsk in August 2016 (1m4f), but has found life tougher from a 7lb higher mark since. Well beaten on her return to action at Redcar in April (last of nine) and debatable as to whether 1m2f is far enough for her.

A decent showing when switched back to turf at Hamilton on Thursday (1m1f good) when a neck runner up to Amy Blair. However, has done plenty of winning previously on the AW (3 from 13), all wins on Tapeta at Wolverhampton, so interesting if turned out quickly.

No impression on his handicap debut at Yarmouth last month and beginning to look frustrating. Drop in to this grade looks a natural step but he still has plenty to prove. First-time visor adds a touch of intrigue though.

Won on turf over this trip at Wetherby last month (comfortably beating Hannington), but beaten subsequently and now races from a 5lb higher mark. Has raced competitively at this track over the winter months without success, but life tougher off this mark as he seeks to shed his maiden status on synthetics.

12 race maiden who has been tried over a variety of trips on the AW, but hasn't been with this trainer for long having finished sixth on stable debut at Redcar on Monday. Mark looks a fair one and this trainer saddled a winner here on Thursday evening.

Ex Neil Mulholland trained, but has shown nothing in four starts for this yard, and was well beaten at odds of 150/1 over C&D on Thursday.

Finally off the mark at Redcar in April (1m2f, good to firm) which was in truth reward for some fairly consistent placed runs. Has proved in the past that this trip, course and grade holds no fears, but beaten by Mr Sundowner on her latest outing at Wetherby so needs to improve a fraction on that evidence.

Lightly raced, just five career starts, and switched to handicaps recently; two places behind Sakhalin Star at Wetherby in May, but dropped 3lb since and unlikely we've seen the best of him just yet.

Has won on Tapeta and has placed form at this track for previous trainer John Norton (August 2016), but moved on over the winter and always in rear on stable debut at Wetherby last month (Mr Sundowner winner, Kerry Icon fifth).

Nothing to show for her four career starts to date and always in the rear when well behind Sakhalin Star at Wetherby last month, so a 2lb drop in the weights unlikely to be anywhere near enough.

Forecasts

Archipeligo (2/1), Hussar Ballad (5/1), Swansway (6/1), Sakhalin Star (6/1), Tambour (13/2), Mr Sundowner (8/1), Kerry Icon (9/1), Percy Verence (11/1), Diamond Runner (14/1), Druid's Diamond (16/1), Calliope (18/1), Sehail (20/1), Dan's Hopeforglory (66/1), Sandgate (100/1)

Verdict

Proven AW winner Archipeligo will be popular after a good effort at Hamilton Park on Thursday, with his trainer Iain Jardine again amongst the winners this week. However, SAKHALIN STAR has posted a number of pleasing efforts since his return to action last month, with his penultimate start (third of ten to Mrs Biggs at Wetherby) a standout piece of form in this company. He is yet to win on the AW, but seems to handle Tapeta well as he demonstrated over a shorter trip at Wolverhampton on Thursday, and another bold showing can be expected.
  1. Sakhalin Star
  2. Archipeligo
  3. Druid's Diamond
