Mark has fallen substantially from his heyday but he's making hard work of things at the moment even off a reduced mark as seen at Hamilton a short time ago. Headgear that he wore there is retained here and there remains a suspicion that he could come good yet although this is his first try over 7f.

5/1
C&D winner who won over mile at Pontefract last year off a mark of 72 and has looked on the way back of late especially on his penultimate run. Failed to back that up last time out over C&D and needs to bounce back here but could be given a chance on his previous form.

Winner on five occasions last year all over a mile (three wins here) and has now slipped back below his last winning mark. Showed some signs of life last time out and is working his way back to form gradually - he could actually run in easier races that this but it doesn't look a tough one for the grade.

Yet to win a race and gelded over the winter he did look as though he needed the race on his return but shaped well enough to suggest that he retains all his ability. Still relatively exposed and back in a handicap he doesn't look to have a lot of room to manoeuvre off a mark of 71.

4/1
The one filly in the field she was a winner of a Hamilton 6f handicap last year of a mark of 60 on heavy going. Only had three run since then and back from a break last time when she looked in need of the run. Now tries 7f for the second time having slipped back to her last winning mark.

Forecasts

Wigan Warrior (9/4), Ellaal (9/4), Full Of Promise (4/1), Ralphy Boy (5/1), Secret Missile (15/2)

Verdict

Not a particularly compelling race to open the card with and it will be interesting to see who grabs the lead here as that can often decide races around here. Ralphy Boy looked to be on the way back but disappointed last time out and he no longer looks interested in being ridden positively which used to suit him well. Secret Missile steps up to 7f for the first time off a good mark with Wigan Warrior struggling to get off the mark and not having a lot of room in the handicap off this mark. That leaves Full Of Promise and ELLAAL as the pair to concentrate on here with the former now back on her last winning mark but the latter goes well here and off a mark of 66 looks attractively weighted to regain the winning thread.
  1. Ellaal
  2. Full Of Promise
  3. Wigan Warrior
