Nicely-bred colt had little trouble in landing a Redcar maiden (1m2f, good, good to firm) in April on second start. Should have scope for a good deal better and with Royal Ascot Group 2 entry still held, will want to go well here to justify it.

Winner in two of five starts last year (also twice finished second) before joining this trainer in the off-season. Poor in two Dubai runs in early spring and so is on something of a rebuilding mission for now.

Won a couple of 7f events at Sandown and Musselburgh this time last year to start career off before running fine race in Listed company at Ascot (beaten a neck over 7f). Lost his way after and has been gelded since poor AW run at Newcastle over this trip in January.

Good start at Nottingham to win maiden over extended mile in October, seeing off a couple of subsequent winners as he did. May have needed Epsom reappearance in April when tackling this trip, though will have to step up if hoping score in this.

Forecasts

Daawy (4/5), Valcartier (7/4), Youmkin (10/3), Good Omen (9/2), Monticello (7/1), Something Brewing (12/1)

Verdict

A decent little contest in prospect with some likeable sorts hoping to further their credentials. Youmkin was impressive in his maiden success but has to bounce back from a poor show at Epsom recently. Daawy, who has a Royal Ascot entry, looked good in taking his Redcar maiden and should have plenty more to offer but this might be destined for VALCARTIER who looked smart at Nottingham and should be at home over this longer trip. He too holds lofty summer targets and earns a slender verdict.
  1. Valcartier
  2. Daawy
  3. Youmkin
