Probably ran to a slightly better level at Lingfield on his second start in finishing fourth, having never really figured at Kempton on debut. Interesting to see how he fares on his first go on turf.

Put in an improved performance last time to finish a close second in a Newbury maiden. Clearly progressive and if taking a similar step forward now he should be capable of going close.

Second in a Newmarket maiden in September which is working out relatively well in terms of form, and is entitled to take the step forward required to win a maiden of this nature, especially if putting in a more professional performance this time.
Pivotal colt out of a Danehill Dancer mare who cost 72,000gns as a yearling. Good pedigree and goes for a well-respected trainer, so worth a check in the market.

Beaten 58L at Newbury last time, having also failed to figure on debut at Wolverhampton in April. Easily dismissed in this company.

Has had twenty of chances to win a maiden of this nature, including twice when beaten favourite, but has never really looked like getting the job done, and there now have to be doubts about his ability at this level.

Ran a fair race to finish fourth in a Newmarket maiden on debut last month, despite running green on more than one occasion. Should be capable of better having had that experience and is one to consider.

Played only a minor role on debut at Kempton last time (1m, standard), and though progress is possible, or even likely, plenty would be needed to take this.

Beat only one horse home when looking badly outpaced on debut at Newmarket last month. Step up in trip may help, as well as the likely better ground, but still looks an unlikely player.

Forecasts

Commander (1/1), Mudallel (5/2), The Statesman (7/1), Warsaw Road (8/1), Azaly (20/1), Seaside Dreamer (25/1), Cape To Cuba (33/1), Quinquereme (50/1), Sir Gnet (66/1)

Verdict

This is likely to be between Mudallel and COMMANDER. The former ran well in a Newmarket maiden in September which looks to be a good piece of form, with the latter just shading preference as he has already proven he can improve from one run to another, given his fine performance at Newbury earlier in the year. It would be a surprise if one of those two didn't take this, with Seaside Dreamer an interesting newcomer given his pedigree and trainer.
  1. Commander
  2. Mudallel
  3. Seaside Dreamer
