Mahler gelding who wears cheek pieces as he makes his debut today. Cost €34,000 and is from a good family for an exciting up-and-coming trainer and so is one of the more interesting newcomers.

Beaten into last on both racecourse appearances so far, having been beaten a total of 221L. Clearly, that doesn't bode well for this third attempt at a bumper.
Finished well out of the frame on debut at Down Royal earlier in the month and would need to show something else in order to figure here.

Phoenix Reach gelding whose dam won over a similar trip to this over hurdles. Yard not necessarily associated with first-time-out winners but a market move would still be significant.
Dark Angel colt who has plenty of speed in his pedigree being a brother to a 5f winner out of a winner over 7f. Interesting to see him start his career in a bumper, therefore, and is probably best watched.
Sets the standard on a good third in a Fairyhouse bumper last month (2m, good to yielding), and should go close again if able to build on that performance.
Finished fourth but was beaten only a length on debut at Punchestown last month having been sent off a big price. Has a further 2lb taken off his back by a different claimer today and should go close again.
Beneficial filly out of Westerner Rose, who won over this trip over hurdles. Has a 7lb claimer riding her and with the fillies allowance therefore has plenty of weight taken off her back on debut.
Scorpion filly related to a few winners and who could well hit the frame on debut. A market move would be notable, therefore.

Forecasts

Special Ted (4/5), Tower Bridge (7/4), State Of Nirvana (5/2), Border Control (7/1), Tangerine (20/1), Just Another Lady (20/1), Reach Up (25/1), Youghal By The Sea (25/1), Gallowglass (25/1), Kosovo (33/1), London To York (33/1), Scarlet Blue (33/1), Gwanyalegend (33/1)

Verdict

It may well pay to side with those with previous racecourse experience in the field and preference is for STATE OF NIRVANA. This filly ran well on debut at Punchestown last month and can put a 7lb allowance to good use in this race and win at the second time of asking. Special Ted probably sets the form standard and could be next best, ahead of Tower Bridge, who was beaten into fourth in a blanket finish on his own debut at Punchestown.
  1. State Of Nirvana
  2. Special Ted
  3. Tower Bridge
