Has thrived since returning to chasing, and a 16L winning margin last time is just about the best piece of form on offer here. Has to contend with a 9lb rise in the weights, but won with plenty in hand last time and could well defy that rise.

No win since September 2014 but has been very unlucky not to win on a number of occasions since then. Drop back to 2m is a slight question mark but if he takes it in his stride then this could finally be his moment once again.

Ran a nice race in second on chasing debut at Worcester last time out and remains on the same mark now. Made a couple of mistakes but was never doing enough to challenge the winner that day, though improvement is very possible.

Has shown issues with temperament in the past but very good when he wants to be as a C&D win back in October showed. Having been tried with a wide variety of headgear, blinkers are added for the first time today, and he is now on his lowest chase mark since that last victory.

On the same mark as when winning at Ludlow at 33/1 two starts ago, but seemed to confirm that to be something of a fluke when being pulled a long way out at Worcester last time.

Forecasts

Kitchapoly (9/4), Jackthejourneyman (11/4), Vodka Wells (11/4), Deauville Dancer (10/3), River Purple (25/1)

Verdict

None of these are totally discounted but the suggestion is KITCHAPOLY. This horse goes for the Skelton brothers having been very unlucky not to win a race since September 2014, with a number of close battles ending in narrow defeat. The drop to 2m is a slight question mark, it must be said, but Dan Skelton is usually a quality judge of which races his horses should be running in and so hopefully it should bring out the best in him. Vodka Wells has thrived since returning to fences and is preferred next, ahead of Deauville Dancer, second on his chase debut last time.
  1. Kitchapoly
  2. Vodka Wells
  3. Deauville Dancer
