7/2
Well beaten as favourite at Fontwell last time when perhaps struggling to shoulder the extra weight on a hat-trick attempt. Goes off 1lb higher now and could do better if able to settle early this time, but still has more on his plate than those two victories.

Winner on handicap debut in December and raised 7lb as a result. Subsequently looked beaten when falling at Musselburgh before running with credit in third at Newcastle last time out. This looks to be a less competitive affair, and there's every chance he can notch up a second career victory.

7/2
Beaten 12L by Lovely Touch at Southwell last time out (Prince Mahler was beaten almost double that distance by the same rival in another race), and has a 1lb taken off her back as a result. Still a mare who retains talent, but usually needs softer conditions to be at her best.

Was just as a lackluster when returned to hurdling at Market Rasen last time, finishing a well-beaten fifth, following some uninspiring form on the Flat. A return to his best form from his earlier career would make him a player, but he now looks fully in the handicapper's control.

Yet to win any of her 13 races, managing to get within 10L of a winner only once, in a bumper. As a result her handicap mark is sinking all the time, but even a further 5lb give at the weights is unlikely to be enough here.

Monte Wildhorn21
Age: 9|  Weight: 11-2| J: Callum McKinnes(10)| T: D G Bridgwater| OR:  85
9/2
Only 1/23 in his career, which came in June 2015, but always tends to run his race and has now slipped to a very attractive handicap mark. Any rain would be helpful, and he also has a 10lb taken off his back by a conditional who knows him well.

Forecasts

Shotofwine (2/1), Prince Mahler (7/2), Oscar Jane (7/2), Monte Wildhorn (9/2), Beautiful People (8/1), Port Lairge (33/1)

Verdict

Prince Mahler probably has the best recent form in the book with two victories before disappointing when up in the handicap at Fontwell last time out. There's no particular reason he should show something else here, except for if he settles much better, while Monte Wildhorn always seems to run his race and this is his easiest assignment for a while. Preference however is for SHOTOFWINE. This gelding won on handicap debut in December and though he was beaten last time and looked beaten when coming down on his only other run since, he should find this a much easier task.
  1. Shotofwine
  2. Prince Mahler
  3. Monte Wildhorn
