Landed a competitive Cheltenham handicap hurdle off a similar mark in October but hasn't been in quite the same form since then with his jumping looking more and more ragged.
A falling mark helped him end a long losing run when he was successful over fences on his penultimate run and he was undone by an 8lb rise for that win next time out. Now reverts to hurdles off a 1lb higher mark with his recent hurdles form having been modest.
Off the mark on his second attempt in handicaps over hurdles when successful at Market Rasen on his last start backing up the promise he'd shown the time before. Travelled well through that contest despite having to battle near the end and a 7lb penalty will make life tougher here.
Due to run on Saturday in one of the abandoned races this previous course winner over 2m6f comes here instead. He's been well held over fences on his last two starts but goes well here (212 form figures) and has to be considered reverting to hurdles off this mark.
All his recent winning form has come over fences with the last two wins coming in races that have developed ideally for him (strong pace that collapses late on). Reverts to hurdles now off a much lower mark but the fact remains that he's much better over the larger obstacles.
Formerly with the Dan Skelton yard she's not shown much for his current stable although she may have hinted at a revival last time out when equipped with cheekpieces for the first time. May be stretched by this trip but more likely to get it around here than most tracks although on the bare form she still has work to do with most of these.
This yard have done well with horses from the Rebecca Curtis stable and this one having run well in bumpers for Curtis has shown promise in novice hurdles on all three runs for his current yard. Looks ready for the switch to handicaps although the trip (not tried this far before) and mark (looks stiff enough) could be doubts but still a very interesting contender from a yard who have done well with this type before.
Winner of three consecutive handicap hurdles when with Neil King in 2015 but has rather lost her ways since then and started out with a very poor run for this yard and finished tailed off.
Forecasts
Sandymount (5/2), Morning Royalty (4/1), Golden Doyen (4/1), Join The Clan (11/2), Petiville (9/1), Allbarnone (10/1), Bon Chic (16/1), Minnie Milan (20/1)
Quite an intriguing little heat with the top weights Golden Doyen and Join The Clan both having questions to answer. Allbarnone is hard to leave out of calculations around here with his course record and Sandymount looks to be improving although he might find this tougher under his penalty. A chance is taken on PETIVILLE as Richard Hobson has already done well with horses of this profile and it will be interesting to see what the market makes of him.
