Well held in a bumper on his debut (finished last) he did better when finishing third on his hurdling debut at Carlisle. Still only modest form though as he was well-beaten by a long odds-on shot having started at 80/1.
Showed nothing of note in three bumpers and finished well held in all of them. 100/1 and made little show on his hurdling debut at Wetherby in April.
Form of his only bumper was modest and can hardly have said to have progressed in two novice hurdles. Best effort over obstacles came on debut at Hexham but he failed to build on that next time and likely to need a stiffer test to show his true worth.
Useful sort on the Flat when trained by Mark Johnson gaining three wins at up to a mile. Showed plenty to work on for his current yard on his hurdles debut at Newton Abbot off a break looking as though he would be better for the run but more than capable of winning in this grade and should improve further.
Previously with Brian Meehan on the Flat (fair maiden) he starts life over hurdles for a new yard. Based on his Flat form he should be able to be competitive here.
Lightly raced Flat maiden (started life with Luca Cumani) but showed little last year in three turf outings and faces a fairly stiff task on hurdles debut.
Makes his hurdles debut having run twice in bumpers (both at Carlisle) showed slight improvement on his debut last time. Outsider of the four runners on that occasion but plugged on to finish second after running in snatches.
Improved to win on her third bumper start but was found out in better grade and under a penalty in two subsequent starts in that sphere. Has taken time to get going over hurdles and her two starts so far have showed only a modicum of ability and may well be better in handicaps once she has a mark.
Showed little on the Flat and remains a poor maiden and was well held in a Perth maiden hurdle on her debut and others are much preferred here.
33/1 on her bumper debut in a mares' only event at Carlisle she showed little there and faces no easier task making her hurdles debut here.
Forecasts
Champagne City (4/6), Boogie Life (4/1), Schlipf (7/1), Shepherd's Bight (10/1), Magnum (16/1), Uluroo (18/1), Sir Tommy (33/1), Mission Mars (80/1), Owl (80/1), Lucky Boo (200/1)
This isn’t a particularly strong heat and the useful former Flat performer CHAMPAGNE CITY is taken to back up his promising debut over hurdles at Newton Abbot. Some of the others have shaped with promise like Shepherd’s Bight and Uluroo with the hurdling debutantes Schlipf and Magnum also capable of making their presence felt.
- Champagne City
- Shepherd's Bight
- Schlipf
