Winner of a maiden point-to-point at Ampton in 2016 but has soon lost touch in both starts under rules. Faces another stiff task here.

Makes chasing debut for a trainer/jockey combination that are riding high at present. Stays well and won't mind the ground. Rated several pounds inferior to Mr Mix over hurdles. Trainer 26-99 with chasers here for a 25 points level stakes profit.

Has performed at a much higher level than these over hurdles and has gone to the last couple of Cheltenham Festivals. Had first novice chase in the bag when making his only error and unseating his rider. Would not want conditions to ride too fast but rates the clear pick based on hurdling ability. Yard took this last year.

Soon struggling at Towcester on Monday and this is a tougher race. Jumped awkwardly that day but a clear round will see him pick up more valuable place money.

Forecasts

Mr Mix (8/11), Kelvingrove (11/8), Touch Screen (20/1), Honourable Henry (40/1)

Verdict

This is a match between useful hurdlers from top yards. Kelvingrove makes his novice chase debut and is sure to have been well prepared for this. He handles any ground but his hurdling form leaves him with a bit to find with MR MIX who would not want conditions to get any quicker than forecast. The Ditcheat runner had a Fakenham novice chase in his grasp when making his only mistake and unshipping his rider two out. His stable have a 33 percent strike rate in chases here and are 7-14 in similar races this season and he is selected to emulate their success in this race 12 months ago.
  1. Mr Mix
  2. Kelvingrove
  3. Touch Screen
