Endured a busy start to the year, racing four times since Good Friday, but showed his best form in a while when an eye-catching fast finisher on soft ground at Newmarket last week. Similar trip today, and a professional rider takes over, and has won on fast ground in the past.

Raised 1lb by the handicapper following a good effort over C&D earlier this month (less than 1L third to Vallarta; Meshardal second). Well suited by quick ground and holds a chance if slightly less tardy at the gates.

Raised 5lb for a front running show in a 6f Southwell handicap earlier this month (won by 2L). Races from a career high mark, and does have plenty of form with cut, but crucially his style suits this track as demonstrated at Class 5 and 6 level last summer (4;1;2 here on fast ground).

Well suited by synthetics (3 from 9) and overall less effective on turf. However, went well enough, but didn't quite win the battle for the lead with all the way leader Spirit Of Wedza over 5F earlier this month, and a return to this trip looks in order.

Not won since a C&D success (rated 85) in June 2015, but placed in four of his last five starts including when splitting Vallarta and Extrasolar over C&D latest. Stable have enjoyed a good start to the campaign and should go close at a track which suits.

Did well on the Tapeta at Newcastle in the early months of 2017 (winning twice), and throughout his career has regularly filled the runner up berth at this track. However, finished fifth and behind both Extrasolar and Meshardal latest, so work to be done to reverse those placings (not discounted).

A two time C&D winner (Class 6) and entitled to be sharper for his seasonal reappearance last month (seventh to Major Valentine), but this looks competitive enough and others days will arrive.

Finished a close third on his debut for this yard over 5F at Newcastle in March (Windforpower second), but held in seventh when making his return to turf last month at Thirsk. However, well handicapped having won off a 7lb higher mark over C&D 13 months ago, and taken out of a couple of recent engagements to wait for this race.

Forecasts

Meshardal (3/1), Extrasolar (7/2), Tricky Dicky (9/2), Major Crispies (5/1), Secret Missile (13/2), Lackaday (8/1), Top of The Bank (10/1), Bold Spirit (11/1), Windforpower (20/1)

Verdict

Plenty of Catterick sprint regulars in action in a tight handicap. TRICKY DICKY bolted up at Southwell on his latest start, and his affinity for this track is an asset which is explained by his front running approach to races. He runs from a career high mark, whilst others have fallen in the weights, so he will need to have his 'A game' on the table in order to follow up. Lackaday is well handicapped, whilst Meshardal was 20lb better back in 2015, but his recent clash with Extrasolar implies that there is precious little to choose between those horses, with a big run expected from both.
  1. Tricky Dicky
  2. Meshardal
  3. Extrasolar
