On a roll on turf last summer winning three times over this trip (at Catterick x2 and Ayr). Up 4lb for that latest success (August 2016), and returns on the AW for a trainer that has done well with her runners at this track lately.
Won a claimer over C&D in March for Michael Herrington having appeared handicapped upto the hilt after a productive winter, and moved on after that race. Probably found a couple of goes over 5F at Beverley sharp enough lately and better back here, but others look better treated.
A dual AW scorer and claimed for 8,000 gns after finishing second to Flowers on Venus at Lingfield (6F) earlier this month. With an astute handler and has been campaigned in the past from higher marks than today's.
Fairly reliable over this track at trips ranging from 7F to 1m (7F winner here in August 2016), but a worry as to how he'll cope with this shorter trip nowadays. Off since October 2016, and possibly this is a pipe opener to blow away the cobwebs.
Lightly raced on the AW and makes his Tapeta bow today. Twice placed from similar marks on Polytrack after scoring at Redcar in July 2016, and continued to race solidly enough on turf lately. Hood reapplied (carried head high latest).
A neck winner over C&D in November 2016 (form solid enough at the time), but absent from action since. Returns from just a 1lb higher mark and interesting to see if he can carry on that steady improvement throughout 2016 into 2017.
Likes Newcastle and won here at odds of 14/1 for Kieran Schofield in February. Remains on a fairly similar mark despite some reasonable efforts and likely to run his race for a different rider.
Stable in-form, and just 3lb higher for his C&D handicap success in March. Took a while to get off the mark, but could progress now doing so and ran his race on turf when fifth at Thirsk latest.
19 race maiden, but consistently knocked at the door here last year, (2,4,2,3) over trips ranging from 6F to 1m and has form aligned with Gun Case and Epeius. Third at Wolverhampton latest for this young 7lb claimer.
Kept on well to score by 1½L at Thirsk last week (6F good), and that success was due reward for a string of consistent efforts in the early part of this year. Has experience of this track and was beaten 2L when fourth to Sugar Town over C&D in August. Well drawn.
Won over the minimum trip here in September from a 6lb lower mark, with his previous fourth placed effort at this track implying 6F could suit. However, he's 0 from 4 over this trip, but the blinkers go on today and that could bring about further improvement from a basement mark (53).
32 race maiden (0 from 23 on the AW) and little reason why on these terms it'll be 33rd time lucky today.

As wide open as the nearby village which shares that name. The Armed Man won well at Thirsk last week and is respected on this vastly different track, but he's already shown he can handle these conditions when fourth here in August so has to be high on any short-list. However, plenty of others hold similar chances with many horses already being Newcastle 'regulars'. Caesar The Gaesar catches the eye back from a break, Burtonwood loves this track (AW or turf), Inshaa is solid yet remains a maiden whilst Epeius is gradually progressing for the in-form Ben Haslam. However, the race could be set up for a finisher, and the first-time blinkered AMBITIOUS ICARUS will most likely get going late, but will be lashing home inside the final furlong and he's a sporting bet at the likely odds.
