Career profile of 2 from 5 suggests that there is more to come from this son of New Approach. Beat Eskendash by 1L at Windsor earlier this month when stepped upto 1m2f for the first time (second start as a gelding). Tapeta debut, but sets a solid benchmark despite a 3lb rise.
1 from 1 on Tapeta (a winner over 1m1½F at Wolverhampton in August 2015), but also successful from this mark last term at Windsor in June 2016 (1m2f). Kept solid company on his recent return to the track, so respected.
A decisive winner of a Class 5 1m2f handicap on the Lingfield Polytrack earlier this month, but raised 7lb and this race is a much tougher test. Nevertheless, that success showed that he has remained on an upward curve despite a winter break, so there may be further improvement to come.
1m1½F winner at Wolverhampton last month (third placed Spes Nostra won on Friday), so reason to believe that a 4lb rise could be fair. Previously with Marco Botti, this is only his third start for this trainer, and whilst this race is a grade higher, he undeniably holds some claims. Newcastle debut.
Finished fourth to Tawdeea in this in 2016 and went onto run well at the Plate Festival the following month, so we know that he handles the track. Below his best level of form lately but falling in the weights and might be better with more time.
Has a recent record of 1,4,2,2 on Fibresand, but yet to prove as effective on Tapeta. Not really competitive in three tries at this track and races from a higher mark still today so opposed.
Won three races over C&D since September 2016 so clearly thrives at this track. However, has risen in the weights (58 to 73) and remains 5lb above his last winning C&D mark (won by a nose). Ran well back from a break at Wetherby recently and always worthy of close inspection at this track.
Back from an unsettling experience here in February with a 1L success at Hamilton earlier this month (1m3f). A smooth traveller who had been on a upward curve at this track over the winter months, so reason to believe his work is far from complete, although ideally suited by further.
Forecasts
Shargiah (9/4), Tom's Rock (9/2), Oasis Spear (6/1), Bollihope (6/1), Pushaq (7/1), Genres (8/1), Top of The Glas (14/1), Muqarred (25/1)
A competitive handicap, but the horse who will attract most interest is the lightly raced SHARGIAH. He was gelded prior to his comeback at Lingfield, and this son of New Approach found the step up in trip to 1m2f suited at Windsor. Both Bollihope and Genres have enjoyed profitable winter months at this track for their connections, but whether either is quite up to winning in this company is open to debate. Oasis Spear should go well on his return to Tapeta after keeping good company at Ascot on his recent return to the track.
