Course regular, and best suited to racing over the straight mile rather than over further. Won from a 6lb lower mark over C&D in November, and backed that up with a neck second to Leonard Thomas the following month. Beaten from higher marks since, but eased 2lb. One to consider.
Unbeaten in two starts here over 7F in Class 6 company. Stayed on strongly close home to down Sonnet in November 2016 from a 1lb higher mark than today's rating of 61. Out of form since in better company, but promises to stay 1m and much respected at this level.
Ran well on stable debut when third to Luath (runs in Division 1) at Southwell last month. Entitled to come on from that run and should handle the step upto 1m, so claims from a mark of 60 with the tongue tie applied.
Has finished last in four of his last five races, but drops to a Class 6 race for the first time since winning at Nottingham in July 2016 (for Richard Hannon). Feasible that the AW just isn't his bag, but very well handicapped and yet to try Tapeta until now.
Dual course winner (7F and 1m) and has been a fairly consistent mare at this track throughout the winter months. 6F probably against her latest, and better over this trip on her return from a two month break.
Veteran who adores Redcar, but running consistently here throughout the winter, and gradually eased to a winnable mark. His second placed effort behind Pickett's Charge over C&D in January has been well advertised by Foolaad since, and should run his race back from a break from a handicap mark of just 58.
Narrowly beaten from a similar mark at Southwell (1m) in early April and was doing his best work late over shorter at Beverley thereafter, so every likelihood this stiff mile will suit. Getting no younger but retains his enthusiasm and ability so could go close if getting the breaks.
Dundalk regular (won over 1m there in September 2016), but forced to look elsewhere for options with AW racing in Ireland now dormant for a while. Feasibly handicapped and interesting to see how he takes to Newcastle and the straight mile.
Beaten narrowly by Barwah over C&D at the first ever AW fixture here in May 2016, and lightly raced since. Off since July 2016, and has joined this trainer from Keith Reveley, with the suspicion being that she'll need this return to action.
Won at both York and Newmarket earlier in his career, but has very much trained off since the summer of 2014. Down a long way in the weights and this is very much his trip, but the AW hasn't brought about any upturn in fortunes just yet.
Maiden who handles this surface (has placed form over further), but hard to fancy dropping back in trip today.
19 race maiden and finished last of eight at Redcar when last in action in July 2015 for Geoff Oldroyd. A major surprise if he's involved.
Forecasts
Faintly (5/2), Three Majors (11/2), Geordie George (13/2), Broctune Papa Gio (8/1), Lozah (8/1), Table Manners (10/1), Lord Rob (10/1), I'm Super Too (16/1), Affectionate Lady (20/1), Torch (20/1), Mayfield Boy (28/1), Crossley (50/1)
Division 2 of the Class 6 Handicap can go the way of the Ruth Carr trained FAINTLY. The gelding is unbeaten at this track over 7F, and there's no reason to suggest that this longer trip will prove beyond him. He is on a competitive mark, and his trainer has saddled a few winners here since late March, and there can be no denying that racing against inferior rivals (Class 6 company) brings out the very best in him.
- Faintly
- I'm Super Too
- Lozah
