Jumped well when winning a Warwick novices' handicap chase on his fencing debut at the start of this month and switched back to hurdles to win a handicap at Worcester last time. Back to fences, he warrants great respect given the economy and accuracy of his jumping on debut.

Useful handicap hurdler whose only outing over fences saw him finish fourth behind the high-class Charbel, Le Prezien and Top Notch at Uttoxeter in October. He has not been tried over the bigger obstacles since then, but he comes into this on the back of a good run in a Stratford handicap hurdle and looks ready to strike.

Well placed to win four hurdles races last year and something must have gone amiss when he was pulled up on his last start, given his long lay-off. Returns to the racecourse with fences to cope with, but will have been well schooled by his top trainer and fitness is not normally an issue with this stable.

Forecasts

Kayf Blanco (11/8), Cobra De Mai (2/1), Moabit (2/1)

Verdict

A fascinating race in which a strong case can be made for all three runners. Cobra De Mai is in fine fettle, jumped really well on his chasing debut and has to be feared, but he does have to give 7lb to two talented rivals. Moabit was a four-time hurdles winner last year and will have been well prepared for this, but preference is for KAYF BLANCO, who was fourth in one of the hottest novice chases of last season and has been kept to hurdles since to preserve his novice status for the current campaign.
  1. Kayf Blanco
  2. Moabit
  3. Cobra De Mai
