Pastoral Pursuits colt whose dam was placed over 1m, with other relatives scoring beyond that trip and up to 1m6f. None of dam's progeny have yet mustered a win and that is a concern here, but sire had bags of speed and is a good source of 2yos. Debut didn't tell us much except that he should improve. Interesting from decent draw.

Half-brother to 6f 2yo winner One Cool Cat out of an unplaced half-sister to eight winners including the useful 7f-1m scorer Beautiful Fire. Ran green enough first time out at Ascot and should improve a fair bit for that, with this extra furlong also looking positive.
13,000 gns foal and changed hands last year for £58,000. Half-brother to 6f winners Minister Of Fun and Magic Approach out of a 5f-6f winning half-sister to 6f 2yo winners Dilys and Lady Natilda. Yard had 25% strike rate with juveniles last year and this is its first such runner of 2017. Market check advised.

45,000 gns Book Two yearling who is a half-brother to 1m2f winner Sinaadi and 1m3f AW winner Captain Navarre. Dam (also won over 1m2f and stayed 1m6f) is a half-sister to Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Power and 1m2f Grade One winner Curvy, out of a 6f juvenile winner. Yard's first such runner of the season and one to watch with interest.

Increased from 32,000 gns to 52,000 gns from foal to yearling. Moderate dam's best placing was fourth over 1m2f from three starts and is a half-sister to US 1m1f Grade Two winner Spotlight and 7f winner Tyranny (dam of top class 2yo/miler Zoffany) out of a Group Two 1m2f winner. Yard's turf juveniles 3-20 (15%) so far this season.
60,000 gns foal and then sold for 185,000 gns as a yearling. First foal of a 6f-7f winner whose best winning mark was 89. She is a half-sister to 6f Group Three winner Aeolus and Listed-placed 6f-7f winner Hezmah. Grandam 5f/6f 2yo winning half-sister to 5f Listed winner Priceless. Yard's juveniles in cracking form (6-19) this time.

$250,000 US-bred yearling by War Front, for whom 57% of the juveniles sired by him to have raced have won. Dam also a dual Grade One winner over 6f-7f. Lovely pedigree, though yard just 1-10 with its 2yos this season so far and the market should let us in on debut expectations.

Verdict

A fascinating contest in prospect and where recent history has suggested that middle to lower numbers do best in prospect. ZAP just about fits that bill and appears to be Richard Fahey's first string given that Paul Hanagan is up. There is enough speed in his pedigree, together with the decent juvenile form of his yard to suggest that he can go well. Taifbalady fits the bill and should be at home on any ground with good in the description, while both Global Tango and Makanah have sprint speed in their pedigrees and can go well.
