Well treated on the pick of his old form and encouraging that he made a winning start for his new yard at Taunton on his penultimate start. That run came on the back of a long absence, however, and, having failed to get competitive last time out, he now has a bit to prove.

Potentially well treated in comparison to his hurdles form and has adapted well to chasing ( 1 win and 2 places from just 8 starts over fences). Shouldn't have any issues with the trip but won't getaway with any jumping errors at these notoriously stiff obstacles.

Was clobbered by the handicapper after winning over an extended 2m at Worcester last season and failed to back things up as a result. Now dropping back to an attractive mark, he cannot be confidently ruled out but is another that needs to conclusively prove he gets the trip.

Made a pleasing start over fences at Plumpton last month and has the scope to improve further. Stamina could again be the stumbling block for this fellow - the betting will be a good gauge where he is concerned.

Respected on the best of his efforts and is 9lb lower than his last winning mark, so has a very feasible chance on these terms. Also stays the trip well but will need the cheekpieces to bring about a more determined effort than his recent effort over 3m at this course.

Age: 7|  Weight: 11-10| J: S Bowen| T: Mrs Caroline Bailey| OR:  92

Only modest from during his time in point-to-points but has adapted well to regulation fences and his latest effort over C&D reads well in the context of this race. A repeat dose will see him in the thick of the action.

Was very deliberate on his chasing debut and was flattered by his finishing position. Difficult to assess anything after he unseated at the first at Uttoxeter earlier this month and is hard to fancy just now.

Very well treated just now and proved he still has the resilience for a scrap when winning at Fakenham last week. He picks up a 7lb penalty for those exertions but, as a previous C&D winner, it may not be enough to stop him making the frame at least. One to bear in mind if the run doesn't come around too quickly for the old boy.

Hasn't won for almost two years and even though he has bits and pieces of from in low-grade handicaps that give him a squeak of a chance; he is too frustrating a character to recommend with anything more than tepid confidence. others look more convincing.

Forecasts

Gorran Haven (6/4), Murray Mount (5/1), Lovely Bubbly (15/2), The Geegeez Geegee (8/1), Eaton Rock (10/1), Boss Des Mottes (10/1), Miami Present (14/1), That's The Deal (16/1), Skint (20/1), Larkhall (25/1)

Verdict

A few of these have questions to answer regarding their stamina over the trip, which may lead to a false pace being set. However, GORRAN HAVEN can make the running if he has to and may have the edge if this turns into a test of resilience. That's The Deal is an admirable veteran that can still be a force at this level. His 7lb penalty may not be enough to stop him in a weak race like this. The Geegeez Geegee and Lovely Bubbly are others worth bearing in mind for a place in the frame.
  1. Gorran Haven
  2. That's The Deal
  3. The Geegeez Geegee
